major leakage

Post by jamiesin »

I thought my leak had somehow "fixed itself," guess i was wrong. It has now come back stronger then ever. I took a quick video of it hoping someone has seen this before. Not sure why it would be coming out of the timing case though?

Is the waterpump on these run off the timing belt? Could be a blown pump.
If at first you don't succeed , get a bigger hammer.

Being here and not having a Delica have a guess that a seal in the shaft area of the injection pump is mostly gone, and blowing fuel into the upper timing belt cover.

Have done a few timing belt changes on Deli's and after seeing the pumps broken apart guess this. There is a exploded IP on the Delica Wiki site

i could be water pump or leaky injection pump. as you mention its coming from the timing belt cover. check if you see green color antifreeze or an oil or water smell it maybe diesel.
this is the only 2 main thing you can check on this.

looks like its coming from the injection pump shaft oil seal. Try and open the timing cover to see it clearly. Timing belt might snap if not serviced immediately.

Good luck.

Hi Jamie,

While your guy is looking at it, I suggest he also phone Butch at CVI Auto and diesel repairs in Richmond, phone 604-247-7000 or cell (604) 710-7000 as that is MitsuBC who replied to you, he is the expert in the diesel system and may have a computer record of what service was done on your van before David's brother got the delica.

Another expert is Glen at CC Autos on Vancouver Island, www.ccautos.ca, phone 1 250 954 2157.

Either of them will be happy to give advice to another mechanic, once he has determined where the leak is. It might be better to have them mail a rebuilt injector pump to you for your mechanic to install. Fuel pump leaks are often caused by the gasket seal drying out with old age.

Cheers, Christine.
