Clunk in rear, axle suspect!

Post by Kinl »

Hi all.. I hope someone can help out here...

For a while theres been a small clunk in the rear when you go over bumps while moving, the kind you'd put down to a loose jack or spare wheel... it only happens when the wheels are in motion and it isn't the wheel or jack... or tailgate for that matter...

After rocking the rear wheels sideways, I heard a very metallic clunk coming from what seems to be the rear axle, behind the wheel (either one) although this seems to only happen when I've just stopped and seems to disappear when its been stood a while...

I'm guessing I need to check the lube in the rear axle (which I checked with Butch at CVI when i first got the Deli 2 months ago and it dribbled clear).. the only reason I haven't checked it now is that my newly acquired socket set doesn't go that big (yet!)

Also when we checked it we just tested it by dribbling a small amount and looking at its clarity, is there a way I should test the level also?

Meanwhile is there anything else anyone can suggest? as that may or may not be the problem...

Thanks

c

HI C! Please check the rubber bushings in the rear shackles. If they are all worn out, sometimes it will cause a clunking noise and the rear axle feel like shifting side to side.

cheers,

Thanks, I'll check them out in the morrow, they are pretty perished at the edges but I didn't think any movement was coming from there, the sound does seem to come from the axle itself.

Well, I needed an Oil change so thought I'd get Butch to have a look while he was there, turns out to be the Stabiliser Arm thingys, will fix it some day, for now I'll just turn up the radio... Thanks
