Alternator help needed asap!!

We both liked Dawson, but I loved Whitehorse. If I could find a job there, I'd start tomorrow.

Same for us. I was just in Yellowknife, and I don't like it anywhere near as much as Whitehorse. Not entirely sure why. Maybe 'cause there is no Baked cafe?

Yes we saw quite a number of semi's on the Duster . At one point the road was so smooth I was doing 100 kms and leaving a trail of dust behind me,

Wow, dust and speed. We had neither. Only on the Tsiigehtchic-Inuvik stretch did we get over 85 for more than 30 seconds, and produce dust. Most of the rest of the run was done at 40-75, with probably 1/3 of it in 4WD. It was in rough shape, but it pretty much eliminated traffic. BTW, my current signature photo was taken on the Dempster.

Back to the topic at hand, I should have a look at some of my hoses.

about what can one expect to pay to get the alternator inspected and rebuilt? I have a power drain which is probably an alternator issue.

planning on going back soon, maybe next year and get into Alaska to see Denali.

I recommend it, I just got back from doing just that.. on a couple less wheels though

I paid $320 when mine was dying. Never got details of what they did, but it spent a year having coolant dripping on it, so you can guess why it wasn't happy making those electrons run around.

I paid $370 which I think is way high but didn't know it would be so much until I got the bill. I noticed that Maximum Overdrive is selling them for $250 (not sure if they are rebuilt or what; either way sounds like a great deal). Check out

Nice pictures!! Yes we have talked more on going to Alaska and I think we'll end up doing it next year.
About the altrnator, I paid $240 for the rebuild and about $100 for the install. The bill was a lot more than that, but I also had an oil change and other things tightened up underneath. I read alot of other posts about what to take for spare parts just in case you break down and it wouldn't have mattered if I did have those parts on hand. The simple fact is the garage in Dawson was booked up for three days. Even if we had taken the wifes Toyota and the alternator ckacked there, it still would have been a few days to get it fixed.
We'll do the same next trip as we did for this trip, just make sure that the van has been looked over and is running fine. We still had fun and thats the main thing .

This is one of those things people don't seem to understand about these vehicles, when I had my turbo go in Ottawa and had to wait to replace that I got all the usual "that's what you get for driving a weird vehicle" from my friends... but the simple fact is that the second garage I went to was able to help me (first one didn't do diesel), and the part was overnighted from the west coast, I could have been driving any domestic vehicle and had just as much, or even more trouble. In fact I remember a road trip a few years back with my family where we were driving a domestic station waggon and were stranded for nearly a week when a fan-belt broke in the interior of BC, so it's certainly no worse with a Delica.
