Broken into downtown Friday night....
Just walked by a black looking Delica on Drake and Howe downtown van with Alberta plates on it that had it's right side middle window smashed with glass on the ground... I wish there was a more direct way of alerting the driver, but this was all I could think of.

Damn! That was mine! Y'mean it was still there when you walked by?
What time was that? Ahhh man that's crazy.
Here's the story. Just came back from the island hiking the North Coast Trail with my lady. We were staying one night in Vancouver at my buddy's place (Drake & Howe) before we had to drive home to Edmonton. I didn't check it when we got back from the bar on Friday night but according to you, it might have still been there! Woke up to go plug the meter at 9 and it was gone. I didn't notice the glass and just assumed it had been towed for whatever reason. After it didn't turn up at the towing yards I went back and found the glass. Called the cops and walked around in a daze wondering wtf to do.
Anyway it was a bitter end to an otherwise amazing trip. We had an overnight bag with a change of clothes. Luckily I had my camera and ipod with me but all my other gear was in the van. In hindsight, it was naive for me to assume the deli would be safe there.
The good news is it has turned up and the police have it in Vancouver. I have to wait for forensics to do their thing but the report says the front driver's window(right) had been smashed but the ignition appeared undamaged. The plates and decals were still on it. I'm hoping it's just the window that needs repair but we'll see. I'll be flying back out in a week or so to pick it up and hopefully drive it back to Alberta.
Anybody know where I can get a new window?

Oops I misread. You say it was the right middle window that has been smashed? The cops told me it was the front right driver's window? I still haven't seen it so any info you might have could be helpful.

Mardy at Amazing Auto in Richmond. I think he has some spares on hand.
No damage to the ignition ? How did they drive it ?
Sorry to hear. Never good news when someone breaks into your belongings/property.

I'm not sure how they drove it but there was a spare key buried in one of my GFs bags. Maybe they smashed the window, ran off with some bags, found the key and went back for the van??
Anyway that's for the tip. I'll ask Mardy.

hind sight being 20/20 maybe next time call the cops? them showing up may have prevented it from being stolen, or not, but couldn't hurt :)
