So I finally got around to it.
Picked up the starter from a guy in PA and brought it home
last night. Looked online for some directions.. really I was
just procrastinating since it's pretty straightforward.
Took me 25 minutes to replace. I think this manual transmission
van is easier than I was thinking.. most have the automatic.
I had lots of room to manuever and even saw the
plug where I could install a block heater. Can do it
in short time.
I have only started it a few times but no reoccurance
of the original symptoms. Hopefully the flywheel is intact.

New starter in and going... sound has returned.
It's the flywheel.
What's involved in getting that done?
Dropping the motor? the standard tranny?
