About to take the plunge!

Post by Gyaku »

Hi everyone. This site has been a great resource. I have a few questions.

1. How reliable are the Delicas? My wife and I are about to replace our 1992 MPV (300k) with a 1990 Super Exceed (140K).

2. Has anyone fixed the blinds on a Crystal L roof?

3. Has anyone in Nanaimo converted to WVO or BioD?

After reading most of the posts, I too am becoming excited about owning my first Deli. The wife, however is still nervous about buying a 17 year old vehicle with 140k.

Thanks
David

They are quite reliable, for a 15+ year old vehicle, and if properly maintained. unfortunately you probably don't know the maintenance history. the bright side is that they are actually pretty simple and straightforward to work on, the down side is that most mechanics are irrationally scared to work on them.

if you are willing to do some work yourself, or you can find a mechanic willing to work on it you're set.

blinds... I have successfully fixed mine (there are a couple posts on here where I explain it) however the only other person who seems to have posted about trying it didn't have as much luck...

WVO or BioD... Bio doesn't require converting the vehicle, but does require converting the fuel... WVO does need a conversion, several people on here have done it.

Thanks Green1,

I understand that I am near a good Deli mechanic. Since I am hoping to make this a "project car" that is probably a good thing. I have already found the manuals on ?oneclick? and intend on getting them as soon as my Deli is ready.

As for the blinds.... it looks as if that may become a future project as I will be spending some time sourcing parts and I don't think I want to mess with an engineering nightmare. What type/brand of oil are you using? I understand that Deli's do not like North American diesel oil.

Thanks

David
