Custom made Mudflaps.

Post by delicat »

Purposeful, cheap, easy and look decent... works with me!

Along with Jay we had a bit of fun last Monday...

Well, $5 a piece at Princess Auto and a few nuts and bolts for those large heavy-duty but flexible mudflaps. Had to trim quite a lot of the lower plastic body panel at the front to make sure they'd clear my 31's but now I've got more clearance than before so I'm happy. Might trim (round up) the mudflap's top corner a bit and add a small stainless wire to secure them to the frame like the Jaos but that's for later, they work fine as they are for now.

Cheers!

Sweet. Another suggestion for people ... I did this on my 1982 Subaru's front mudflaps. They didn't go close enough to the ground for my taste.

So I picked up (literally, from the side of the road) truck inner tube, and cut a piece about 6" wide by 5" high. Used nut and bolt to attach it to the bottom of the existing mudflap. The extensions were long enough they would actually touch the ground. The (minor) problem was that if you backed over an obstacle, they would get caught between the obstacle and the tire.

But it wasn't really a problem, because being rubber, and held on with 2 bolts, they would simply rip off. Then when I got home, I'd cut another piece and bolt the replacement on. The stock mudflaps were very secure, so the weak link was the inner tube extensions. But since they were free and easy to replace, no big deal.

Hmm, gonna have to do that with the Deli too. I don't like getting crap and slop all over the side step.

This project has been finished for quite some time but never got around to posting the final picture... It's since been truly tested while wheeling and they do the job!
