We have a '92 Exceed diesel, running LT235's. I am getting an average of 22 miles/gallon, about 10litres/100km, not as good as my Jetta TDI, but not bad considering size of van. My work truck, '07 Ford F150 with canopy is getting about 16 miles/gallon.

10l/100km is more like 28+ MPG ... or are you speaking in US (128oz) gallons?

Just started to redo the figures after fixing a leaky injector, replacing all the injector seals, and cleaning the EGR.

From Banff to Columbia Icefields and return: 11.1/100k
From Banff to Golden, B.C.: 9.9/100k

The latter was fully loaded with gear, 4 passengers, roof rack, hitch basket, but was a suprise as that is the best I have ever achieved. However drafting a semi that pulled in front of me to Castle Jct., and then averaging 70km/hr through all the construction would have helped as well.

This represented about a 2l/100km improvement over what I was getting before I noticed the leaky injector.

Our 10 day Vanc. Isl. tour saw 30mpg overall (160oz/Imperial gallon ie. 4.545 L per).
5spd. with EGR blanked, 50/50 logging roads/hwy (kept it mostly at 80-95km/hr on the hwy). Also a little bit of time in 4wd hi & lo range. No roof-rack. It seems to get as good or better fuel economy around town as on hwy. Tires are 235s non-agressive tread "all-terrains" with around 42psi. I think it spins about 2500rpm @ 80km/hr. As far as I can tell 1900-2000rpm feels like the sweet-spot in terms of strong torque yet at relatively low rpms. Am curious to see what 100-110km/hr trips would produce. Luckily I live on S. VI so not much need (or opportunity) to travel at that speed anyway :-)

Traveling daily from North Vancouver to Langley City at 90-120 km/h on the highway and sitting in traffic jams on the way back my brick burns 10 L/100 km. No mods.

I find, although 120 is easy to cruise at, that I use up considerably more fuel. 100 Is a good number. I have been driving out to Aldergrove every day for the past couple of weeks ~ and including two days of city driving ~ when I fuelled up I figured my overall mileage at 10.5 kilometres per litre. I figure that without the two days of city driving it would be more like 11 kilometres per litre.

wow.
i filled up my deli a few days ago, and hit the odo reset. 309kms? :o
i mean sure, i have a roof rack, but it has a deflector. my 31" boots probably have something to do with it too...
im wondering if the low mileage has something to do with the 150liters of unfiltered vegoil(10 cubies), and spare muffler in my rear... :o
probably... :-(

been thinkin of running the tank dry to test my MPG, but i heard this is not good for the deli...
haven't seen the fuel light yet either.

My first fill up on my L400 LWB was over 13l/100km with 50/50 city/highway driving, but most of the highway driving was in "hurry" mode at 120-130km/h.

Second fill up was 12.3l/100km, again about 50/50 but highway driving was done in the 100-110km/h range.

i got brave yesterday and 'tested' my fuel light... :?
Image

looks like i get 368 kms/ per tank of diesel. i was fortunately lucky to be close to a gas station with diesel in Winfield when the light flickered on and off.
looks like it comes on when my needle is at the top of the empty mark... good to know.
this makes me wonder how much further i coulve driven before i was dry... :?

It was mentioned a number of times that you are running larger tires = your odometer will be off mark by about 9%.

You are in reality getting closer to 400 km / tank. At least to that tank you are referring to in your post.

But again, in reality, it's not a 'full' tank unless you're dumping in 60+ liters.

So... with that said.

How many fill ups have you done ? What was the mileage recorded with the 9% + and how many liters went in ?

After 4-5 fill ups and various driving, let us know.

But I can pretty much tell you, you will get around 12L/100km on your rig if you drive it average/conservatively because I ran the same setup cross BC/AB and all over the interior.

One thing I've never figured out... what is the fascination with mileage measured in km/tank???? it's useful for figuring out where the next fuel stop needs to be, but as far as figuring out how efficient your vehicle is, it is completely useless. The only way to measure economy is to measure the amount of fuel going in, and the distance travelled, only with BOTH measurements can you come up with any semblance of a fuel economy figure.

Also note that you have to average it over several tanks to be at all accurate, because a fluctuation of 2-5 L/100km between different days is not at all uncommon, the more fills you keep track of, the more accurate your economy numbers. keeping a mileage log also allows you to see trends in your economy, to tell if changes you've made have helped or hindered, or just to get a feel for if there is something suddenly out of whack.
