Odyessy 1500 and more...Complete!
Does anyone know if there is enough room to install the Odyessy 1500 + one of the dual batteries side by side?
I was hoping to use the Odyessy for the vehicle and the other for a diesel heater.

I haven't tried it but when I fit mine in the dual tray it looked like a typical 2nd battery would fit in there, albeit tight.
Only one way to find out for certain

Re: Odyessy 1500 and more...
I'll be replacing my dual batteries with one Odyssey 34/78-PC1500 by the end of next week, weather permitting as I'm doing it outdoors. I'll size it up and post results once I have it apart.
My Odyssey has both top and side terminals and is spec'd at 10.85" L x 6.99" W x 7.82" H. That's without anything mounted in the flush side terminal sockets yet. The 34R-PC-1500 with only top terminals is same dimensions except for 6.76"W, so two of those would be less tight. You can compare that with the width (and length) of your existing duals.
Two Odysseys should work as the replacement dual Interstate 'mt 24's that I know have been used in some rides are spec'd at 10.25"L x 6.88"W x 8.75"H.
Cheers,

Here are my latest mods including the battery.
1) Install the Odyssey 1500.
2) Use the second battery as auxilliary use only. (solenoid install to follow)
3) Install an Airtronic diesel cabin heater. Connected to auxilliary battery.
4) Move extra toys to auxilliary battery.

- Yes there is plenty of room. Until the solenoid is installed, the auxilliary will be unorganized.

- This is the hard part. I will remove the one on the left.

- This location works pretty good. It blows low, medium, hot and turbo hot!. At turbo hot it uses 1 cup of diesel per hour. Medium will be just fine!

- Here is the heater. It runs off the diesel in the tank and is connected to the auxilliary battery, which will only be tied to the Odyessy when being charged.

$$$
They range from 900 - 1,800.
You can find them used on ebay/craigslist sometimes around 600-800 if you're lucky.

No they are not cheap.
However being warm vs. shivering makes it worth the price.
A night at -30 made the choice for me.
Any thoughts on a Solenoid install?

Yes, 2 Odyssey 1500's will fit in my Jasper as well, or one 1500 plus one of the originals. I just removed the 2 Panasonic originals and am about to install one 1500 with both side and top posts (once the weather improves a little). If you put 2 in you won't be able to access the side posts, so you may save a few $$ by purchasing the top post only 1500.
I'll be installing my new single in the other orientation (with access to both sets of posts) then use the extra space on the tray for accessories.

Nice mod White Mule! Would be worth to post the Diesel heater mod in a separate post with more infos how you did it.
This is a frequently asked subject and on top on my list as well. I'm not exactly sure where you installed the heater on your Delica.

I use this.
It's used by overlanders across the globe.
Well worth the cash.
National Luna Intelligent battery manager / dual controller

http://www.sierraexpeditions.com/index. ... tail&p=551
I used it on our last trip and it's a very useful tool to use.
Separate dual battery monitor and let's you select them individually or lock them together for heavy loads, winching, etc...
It's smart enough to link the batteries together to crank over the diesel on the cold mornings, separate them, and charge the main battery until it comes to an acceptable level, then starts charging the backup one after that. It's a really neat unit that saved us a few times from running our batteries down in the middle of nowhere.

I like this device. Thanks jfarsang.jfarsang wrote:National Luna Intelligent battery manager / dual controller
At present the Odyssey and the Auxiliary are in parallel until I can seperate them with said device or other.
Am I at risk of damaging the odessey in the interm?
I will post additional photo's soon.
Thanks,
