If you could go anywhere in your Delica...

Post by marsgal42 »

I was just watching the Top Gear Botswana road trip (much better on DVD), from the Zimbabwe border to the Namibia border with lots of cool stuff in between, and found myself thinking how much fun it would be to do a trip like that in a Delica.

If you could drive your Delica anywhere on the planet, where would you go?

We have club members in Africa and they really struggle to get parts there for L400s so I although I would love to do that trip , I think I would do it in Toyota.. Bight my tongue... :-D My choice would be the Kimberley Region in Western Australia.. With a boat on the trailer.. 8-) Cheers..

Drop me off via air in the middle of the Arctic circle with a Delica loaded with all the gear and 45" balloon tires.

As long as you have plant-powered FTL drive installed.

I have often thought about shipping myself and the MLB to Japan, stopping in on Mr Suzuki for tea and showing him what has become of his old van; taking the boat across to Vladivostok, stopping in on Nakami; then making my way south through the Middle Kingdom (of course stopping at "places") and down through Nam and onto Angkor Wat. I would likely hook up with guys in Aus and motor around that area for a bit. Next on up to Thailand, stopping at Chiang Mai for a genuine Thai taco and a beer. From there I would probably head toward Tibet/Nepal area; then onto Kashmir and west toward Afghanistan, taking detours along the way of course, on into Iran to Shiraz to see Hafiz's tomb and spend a little time contemplating his life and mine. Then up to Tabriz and over toward the Lebanon and check out some of the early haunts of Khalil Gibran. Maybe Cairo and Africa, not sure. Probably Italia, though. I would hit Espania ~ Malaga then see if I could find some Delica brothers in Catalonia. Then meander my way through Europe, including Saint Petersburg, to the UK, stop in on a few old haunts, like the Crown, look up old friends and see if I could find Mystery Machine ~ compare a few notes, you know... Catch a boat to Newfoundland and visit every province and territory in Canada on my way back to the Lower Mainland, Hopefully the Olympics will be over by then.

That or just explore BC ~ still debating.
