Bloody theft sucks.

This popped up on another forum I frequent, and sounds like an excellent idea, particularly if you set it to send you a text when the door opens and you're not in the area (bluetooth) or something.
just thought its worth a mention, but ive found some detailed info and some nice looking software that turns an old phone and GPS reciever into a well featured tracking unit. that using Bluetooth tracking to your phone knows when your driving it, and if it moves while your not present you get an sms with the coordinates, then you can connect to the incar tracker and get live feed from the interwebs.

it all sounds too good. but ive got all the parts needed to test it at home, so ill give it a go and report back, if it works its damn cheap (likely sub $100 in parts) with the only ongoing cost a bottom of the range prepaid phone sim like $10 for 3 months.

i will report back, give me a week or so.
I'll post it up when he reports back the results.

as I'm a licensed ham radio operator I use APRS for vehicle tracking, I think I paid about $150 for the components, but that was 3 vehicles ago, and there is zero ongoing cost.

Why has no one mentioned the trunk monkeys? The most effective solution. Gets rid of the bodies too!

(Search youtube for "trunk monkey")
