How Audio system "Friendly" are L300's?

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

How Audio system "Friendly" are L300's?

Post by audi4life20v »

Kinda simple yet complicated question XD

If I bought a L300 I'd be looking at Installing my current Headunit, speakers, sub (Im 18 sorry its a must XD).

Are the alternators pretty tough and more importantly how is the stock speaker wiring? I currently have 2 alpine 4 1/4" with a 80w peak and 50w norm and 2 6 1/4" components that are 80w norm and 250w peak! The Amp is a 500w 2ohm to go wtih my alpine type R 10" And can pull alooot of current. I can/could easly get my voltage on my Audi to drop .5-1v if the sub sustained or punched hard enough. Would the DElica alternator hold up to that or would I be lookng at getting a Cap. to try and ease the strain.

Kyle.

The alternator should handle the load with no problem as long as you aren't running absolutely every power accessory at the same time.
The stock wiring for the speakers, not to mention insulation, and space for decent speakers in the stock locations is a right off. Plan on fresh wires, and a lot of rigging and insulating to make it a decent little boom-boom bus.

Kyle,
Sounds like way too much wattage just to hear the Jonas Brothers :-D

Stock rears are 5.5 inch, so plan on cutting the stock speaker bracket and as well you will need to trim the panel stiffener so the magnet doesn't touch in behind. But dont expect the original speaker panel/door cards fit. I took one look and ended up making my own, since just getting the panels off is such a pain, you end up beaking a few or more tabs due to the brittleness of the plastic.

Dental floss is thicker than the speaker wires.

The fronts are 4.25 and my Infinitys fit right in

If you like I can post a few pics of what you will be looking at. do a search and look for a posting which deals with rear speaker replacement. It will give you an idea of what you need to take off in the back ( and its a shiteload)

Good Luck
Gregg

Haha Jonas brothers :-D you wish!
Nah its all about the Tiesto, Benny Benassi, Rammstein, Killswitch Engauge, Europe, Kenny Loggins. (HIGGHWAYYY TO THE DANGERZONEEE!)

And I still need to amp my rear 6 1/2's although probably not going to gain that much sound quality for the cost... one day I guess.

For your infinitys in the front how big are the magnets? My Alpines have huge magents on the 4 1/4's well compared to the speaker itself.

I know with my Audi it orginally had 5 1/4's but because they were mounted IN the rear deck when i mounted the 6 1/4's ontop it left nuff room for the magnets... Just.

And the sub honestly isnt that big... XD

I'm afraid not, sorry ~ no clue about Audis. I was thinking if you were in the Lower Mainland (Vancouver) then I could direct you to people who give good advice (as well as install stereos) who might be able to help you but not likely if you are in the Edmonton area. Just a thought... smiles.

I have a deck that puts out 50w x 4 - component speakers in the back (5 1/4 with tweeters) - up front I have 4" (all decent quality). I also am running a 12" sealed bass driver. It works well but you have to tweek it quite a bit, it is nice that my deck has a lot of controls but every time work is done on the vehicle I have to reset all to my settings. Things like speaker size, distance, cross-overs etc. When trying to balance the system using the fader the sound becomes too loud for anyone in the back because the speakers are pointed sideways. I was thinking about making a new box that would fit under the rear seat and allow 6x9's to be pointed forward, that would fill in the sound I'm sure and allow it to be perfect. The side panels in the rear of the van are real weak but they glue real well if you break one like I did. Some of the tabs break off as well but they glue up nice to. One mod I made which works real well for me - I used a quick connect system so I can easily remove the box. I was mainly worried about the ground and power while using a quick connect but the one I got from Lorco is like the style you see on electric fork lifts so now I dont have to worry about shorting anything out when I stuff the wires into the compartment (right rear).

One more thing, in the post about how to change your speakers it says to remove the rear seat when you want to remove the rear side panels. What I did was I removed the front section (by Captains chairs) of side panels first then I slide my captains chairs forward and just rolled my rear seat forward, after removing the bolts of course. This makes it easy to do by yourself, you have to make sure you don't allow it to unfold and to keep it straight so it doesn't scratch the anything.

I really like how my Van sounds, I'm sure you will when you are done.

cheers

Oh and yea as far as the Audi goes Im now pretty sure its the reference pin in the flywheel, probably fell out I was told so I guess Im gonna have to get under my car and pull the starter to check if it popped out. Woooo..... FML Im almost temped to hop on down to a local suzuki dealership and pick up a used Civic SiR they got... But then I remebered this is alberta and that would suck for winter... And who DOESNT have a Civic? Well not this community :-D

Hey dfndr are you running stock wiring for the speakers? And how does the sub sound/ how hard does it hit? Guess it depends on the sub make/model and the fact its a sealed box your probably seeing less pound but a tighter sound.... And what kinda box are you running that doesnt have the push down butttons for the wires? and I just looked and it seems you were more worried about creating a short with the amp... But then again most headunits should have an option to turn the amp off as the amp needs to see that 12v signal from the headunit to tell it to be on/off. Anyways yea my car had paper cone Bose audi and it was pretty old.... couldnt belive the differnce in quality by just changing speakers. (not going to lie it wasnt bad though it came stock with tweeters and amped speakers in the rear...)

But yea thanks for your setup seems ill be running a similar configuration...
