Yes, I also read somewhere on this delica forum that L400 OEM LHD Headlights are only $200/pair in Japan

I checked the last repair bill there and it was a OEM Mitsubishi part used. Dealer costs are alot cheaper than retail.

I can change timing belts all day long for $200. But if you want the balance belt, drive belts, tensioners, waterpump, thermostat, front oil seal replacement, reconditioned radiator, radiator hoses, pump timing reset, valve clearances reset and a bunch of other jobs done that have not been done since it left the factory then.......... its more than $200. To think that a 15-18yr old vehicle could have $200 spent on it and it will be all OK is crazy. Just ask all those happy customers that have had to replace their engine because of overheating, timing belt tensioner failure or timing belt failure due to excessive oil leakage. Bet they wish they had done more than the $200 quick fix.
As for headlamps (L300), I don`t know anyone that buys them in Japan. Most are made in `Asia` (sounds a lot better than saying China) and purchased through germany ( a LHD country) where thay can be found in abundance.
L400 headlamps are only available through Mitsubishi as there are no aftermarket manufacturers. This means that the most economical way to buy them is at there source in Japan. I just imported a bunch direct from Japan and believe me they are no where near $200 per set. If anyone knows where to get them for that little let me know I`ll take 20 sets !!!

Allot of controversy over a belt ? He asked how to check if the belt was done, I suggested if it was in question or a concern just a few hundred to ease his worries.

My opinion on the original question. Never trust anything that comes over from Japan , get it checked by someone that is familiar with 4D56 engine and get a second opinion. The belt may be brand new but there are a lot of other components that may not and they are the ones that are going to cost money down the road.
Actual timing belt failure is very rare. Most failures are due to tensioner failure or balance shaft belt failure which may not have been changed when they put the sticker on saying that a new belt was installed.
