hi, they can just replace the overdrive switch if you can.
just bring it to any specialist transmission place & they can fix it.

hope this help

Well this would work but the overdrive `is` working. It`s very hard to diagnose a vehicle through a forum when you cannot see the symtom. As he previously quoted the RPM does drop when the overdrive switch is pressed. The throttle cable and kickdown cable have been adjusted but the vehicle constantly tries to kick down when at highway speed and this according to "specialist transmission place " is because the seals inside are old and brittle. The transmission is not worn out and is not slipping but it does have an erratic shift. We have seen this a few times now including my own personal van. Once the transmission has been resealed and put back in the transmission will drive perfectly. The downside is that to have a "specialist transmission place " strip and reseal the transmission costs about $850 and takes 5-6days. The other option is to put in a used transmission that we know shifts correctly which is the option the customer chose.
We also carry a fully reconditioned transmission (including new torque converter) but they are really pricey at $1750 exchange. Thanks, Glen

Just to add my 2 cents....

My Deli also reads 3500 at 90kms. Its the instrumentation, not the actual revs that is the issue. I'm not sure why it does this, but its not actually over revving.

Sounds like a different issue here perhaps.

HI Bosc, is yours automatic or manual tranny. The manuals do rev much - hugely much - higher than automatic. Christine.

Hey tardisdeli,

I'm an automatic.
on occasion my guage will go to normal values with no disernable engine speed difference. I'm not sure if I should be concerned about it, I just kinda got used to it!

Hi guys, I'm having a similar issue, have had it for months but learned to live with it. My van doesn't shift into 4th gear on the highway unless I'm heading downhill slightly and let of the had pedal sharply. Then it will go into 4th.

I've read that adjusting the tps sensor could help, or the kick down but can't find an explanation of how to do this properly.

Who knows maybe i need a new tranny?
