I checked my panels and there are anchor points in mine, a 1991 super exceed. I've ordered and will pick up a full set of seatbelts including the panels and all mounting hardware from Japan through DELI BIG RIG. I'll post how everything goes once I get them and have them installed.

I haven't decided whether I am going to do this myself or try and get someone more experienced to do it for me.

My 1990 Super Exceed has all the necessary anchor points. I pulled the panels off today and I think I will tackle both the shoulder belt install and the crystal lite blind repair on the same day/weekend/week. Now all I have to do is source all of the parts.

Does anyone know if the motors in the blinds are repairable. If anyone has pulled out a busted one and would like to donate it, I'd be willing to pull it apart and source replacement parts. I have a buddy that is a master at both electric motors and fabricating parts. I'd pull out my own, but the wife would get upset if the van was out of order for a week.

I can't really say... what I CAN say is that the motor is the least likely problem in the blind... the blind itself is attached to flexible rods that are moved by the motor... the plastic clips that connect the push-rods to the blind are the fragile part of the system and most likely to break... simple check, if the blind moves freely on it's own (pull on it to close it, springs back to open when you release it) then your problem is the clips. if it is "stuck" and won't move at all, then you MIGHT have a motor problem (though the clip could also have broken in such a way as to jam somewhere)

Hi Green1,

All I hear when I hit the switch is a solenoid click. Two blinds don't appear to have cables. One has a cable and is attached, but doesn't move. I'd like to pull them down, but it looks like a big job.

Hi, Usually the motor with cable always snap & the clip broke, bad design, if they made it manually cover the blind like townace its better. yes you can fix it but need lots of your time & be prepare to have parts in case you find a broken parts,you have to take out half of the rear headliner, its a big job. i usually just leave it open for now as i dont have much time to fix this.

I posted in another thread on how to fix the broken clip problem... it's a big job, but not difficult.... someone else on here posted something about converting the blinds to manual by putting some powerful magnets on them to hold them "closed" but still be able to open as desired.

As for removing the whole assembly... that was my original plan when I went to do the repair... but discovered that it isn't only a big job, it's a HUGE job... you basically need to take out EVERY trim piece at or above window level in the entire vehicle...

I'm wondering if the back blinds can be reached by pulling out the rear lighting, and the trim above the windows, removing the rear speakers and then pulling the rear top trim panel down a few inches.

Has anyone tried this approach?

as green 1 say its a hugh job & this panel is very brittle cause of the ages, heat & cold combined makes the board brittle. so just be careful when you take it out the panel.hard to do the short cut way,

Hi guys I noticed the problem as well when I put my daugters car seat in one of the captains seats .So I went down to my local auto wreaker and brought down the male side of the seatbelt. They had a bucket full of seatbelts. So I looked for a cinch style belt with the same end.It didn't take long and I found one,even the same colour.I dont know what It was off of but It worked perfictly ,It was the proper fix at the proper location and bomber safe for my little one.Got another babe coming In october and I will have to find another one so If I find out the make and model I will post It for the deli dads. cheers

That was a thought that occurred to me the other day also Wesley. Because on my captains chairs I have female seatbelt connects on both left and right side of each chair. So two male cinch and I am set.
I figured wrecker would have a bunch.

Went to a local wreckers and they told me that unless I found a seatbelt that was off a Mitsubushi, none would fit in the female ends I have in the Delica. These guys did not have a box of them, just a shelf with a few.
Went to another wreckers and that had a Colt Vista but the belts looked different....
So I think I have to go with the option that Todd did and order the kit.
Unless, Wesley, you think there may be more at your local wreckers? Where are you located?

I think NAPA stocks a non retractable cinch style replacement - maybe check w/ your local parts supplier if the retractable isn't important. Or do what I did temporarily and remove one from the rear bench.

Got the cinch style lapbelt from Lordco. Took out the inertia lap belt and retrofitted the new one. I took Todd's experience...

The challenge is getting the controls side of the seat trim reinstalled.
When removing and installing the seat time you gotta watch you don't torque on the seat adjustments linkages and brackets etc too much as they're kind of delicate after years of use. You actually have to unbolt one of the levers first and I had a !@##$% of a time getting the washers and nut reinstalled. In fact that was the most problematic and time consuming part of this job.

and just pulled it back just enough to reach the bolts.

Not sure how I feel about having the only anchor points on the captain's chair itself but it seems solid enough. I guess that if the force of an accident is enough to rip the captain's chair bolted anchors would also fail.

Anyone have a thought on that...

Now I can fold up the rear seat as we head on our our first camping trip up island. San Joe Bay and beyond...not much beyond unless we upgrade to the amphibious Delica.
