seat belt

Post by deli1733 »

i have a 1991 delica that doesnt have the shoulder belts for the captain chairs. i have to small kids still in carseats and ive read a couple of threads say you have to install mounts in place of the belt and another under the chair. i just took off the old belt and replaced it with a fixed belt like on the back bench seat and this seems to work good. is this not a good idea or has nobody thought of it yet

I attached my tether to the huge flange at the base of the seat. Had to remove the seat to do it but it was easy.

Check the manual for the car seat(s).

Mine says "A tether strap must always be used with a vehicle whose lap belts only lock during a sudden stop or crash, OR with seat belts with buckles located forward of the seat crease."

So with fixed belts you have the first point covered. I guess the point of the second condition is that if the seat belts originate ahead of the crease, the whole car seat could pivot forward on the belts in a crash. Face plant. No good.

If it turns out the tether is required for your car seats and van, there are posts on here about it for L300 and L400.

you need to use the tether when seats are forward facing, not when facing rearward.
