Canola oil ?
I came across a thread on the UK Deli club about adding one liter of canola oil to every fuel up. There reason was the low sulpher content and lubrication. I was wondering if this method would affect the fuel lines and such? Any imput would be apreciated. Im tempted to try this in my boat.

Re: Canola oil ?
if you have a full tank its a great idea, I do it all the time, if you dont put in some form of lubricant you will have leaking problems with in about a year , Right now I drive around with a bottle of raycor diesel additive , I like this brand as it has the nice little one OZ spout filler on the side. but if you want to go natural , vegie oil is great, just so long as it is not Hydroginated oil, that will bugger you, and you know as it comes in a block , not liquid.
but in the summer I run as much as 40% vegie oil, ya i get it for free so its worth it, but only in the summer time in warm weather.

Do change your fuel lines though, it could cause a problem.

No I dont change the fuel lines, there is no need to unless you run Bio , if your running bio either the B5 or even up to the B20 like in the us then you need to change your lines to synthetic when i get my keeper delica I will be chaning my lines to a larger bore hose but I also have Many Many mods in the works for that .

I'm told that low concentration biodiesel is not hard on the lines. Wouldn't a litre of canola per tankful actually be a higher concentration than 5 percent bio and therefore be more of a threat to your fuel lines? Or is it about additives in the blending process?

Re: Canola oil ?
Hi, Im not sure if its the combination of the lye or something else in the other chemicals, but I actually started my own test in my back room , took a glass jar, put in 2 cups of b5 , 4 o-rings and two one inch sections of fuel line.
While I have not cut any sections of the fuel line to to see the affects inside, one of the o-rings has started to "lift" in a couple places, now this could simply be a scratch on the o-ring and the little pieces just expanding? However they also look to have a fuzzy bit on the edges,
This experiment has only been going a very short time, but I wonder if this is the start of what some people call sluffing of the rubber seals and lines, im sure that after 30 days, and then every thirty days the rusults will show any real effects.
For my engine and any vehicles I have sold, I STRONGLY recomend changing fuel lines over to synthetic, if chosing to run bio. if you run wvo, you dont need to upgrade hoses.
Transit has converted a bunch of buses over to bio, but the key word IS CONVERTED!!! that conversion is new seals and lines.
now when you throw in other chemicals into your fuel tank such as lubricants, cetane boost, biocide....... im sure there must be some form of effect from that on the make up of your fuel , and I dont pretend to know how they would all work with biodiesel. im not asking anyone to do anything to damage their engines or fuel systems, but if some one out there has been running bio for say 6 months - a year , I would love to here if they have had any leaking , really would like to hear feedback, positive or negitive.

Hmm... maybe I'll change those lines. Yet another messy job.
Let us know how the experiment goes.
