First Delica Camper Build with a slide out?

Post by thedjjack »

Not sure if this is the first Slide out or not?

But here is the start of my camper build, just roughed in right now.

Slider extends 3 feet using 4 heavy duty drawer slides. Lots of work ahead, but a good start.

Why is that part sliding out? Is it for the head/feet or is it storage?

For the feet. Gives a 6+ foot bed and still have some floor space.

Rear gate up to sleep with lockable storage under the bed and then rubber seals that the slide put will push through to stop bugs/weather from coming in.

To keep the weather from coming in you are going to have to seal all that
plywood off right? One thing that might have been interesting is to have made
it from puckboard. The cool white stuff they use to surround the boards
on ice rinks. I made an ice shack from the stuff. Stuff, different thicknesses
and waterproof if sealed where you use the screws.

Neat design.

the rear door fills up with water if left in the up position during substantial rain fall or over a long period of time. You would want to design a rain fly for the hatch back. I had mine up while camping and it filled up enough to over power the struts due to wieght and the door came down, was totally full of water. It all drained out as the door has drain holes. I think the water gets in around the licnese plate area. Just my 2 cents.
I am doing my conversion right now too, robbed a westfalia interior, getting 110v system, fridge, stove top and sink.

Good to know about the water...I will look at it.

I will post some more photos soon. I did a major redesign of the slide out. Much better. Take some photos tomorrow.

Got photos of your Westi swap? Send me a link!
