Tsunami

Post by jessef »

Got woken up at 6am local time on the north shore of Oahu in Hawaii about the Chile quake and to brace for a tsunami later in the morning.

We got our gear in the car and headed up to a lookout over pipeline and sunset beach.

Met some cool people and came to find out that the tsunami never hit us.

We went back down to the beach that was completely deserted. It was a very rare sight to see pipeline going off with not a single surfer out and we ended up swimming in beachbreak at sunset beach that was also deserted.

I guess the locals went home to check on their gear and tourists were probably still too scared to come down.

We enjoyed about 2 hours of complete solitude on two of the most famous beaches on the planet.

On a Delica-related note, I spotted my 3rd Mitsu pickup from the 80's.

If you look closely in the picture you'll see a nice lineup outside of the grocery store. People were going nuts.

there was a mild facebook panic, but i checked the projected forecast mapping thing and saw that Tofino would get a huge 1.7 foot wave... no panic!
