U-joint part numbers needed! -shakey in Oregon

Post by coaxial »

Hey all! Having and awesome drive down the Oregon/Cali coast currently, but just had my rearmost ujoint go out. I blame the fact that i had a full checkup and spent thousands on preventative maintenance, greasing, etc. just prior to leaving.

I have the tech documents with me but not this part# local mechanics aren't sure. I see the parts wiki is gone and couldn't find this searching the site from my phone (which costs about $10/minute).

Could someone reply with the part numbers I could use to get a new ujoint please ASAP? Hoping to not drive all the way home with it broken.

Thanks a bunch! Josh

Thanks guys, any other equivalent numbers? A Les scheab is getting one in from a 92 montero. Do you think that will work? Looks like we're stranded until tomorrow.

Any numbers a us shop might recognize? Napa?

Thanks again

the precision 399 is actually a Federal Mogul /precision 399 crosses over to a Delco 45U0176, dana dt1516 and others.

You need the rear u joint for an 89 montero later years use a different part number. 89 uses the precision 399, 90 on up use a precision 450

update now that I found wifi again: success! thanks so much for the quick reply of the part numbers. I eventually found a Napa and they had a Precision 399 in stock, then I found a mechanic who stayed past his closing time to get it installed for me. Got along really well with the guys at the shop and got some advice on where to go to 4x4 in the dunes/beaches (which was very fun!).

u-joint: $21
install: $70

cruising along the beach in a repaired delica by sunset, watching huge storm surf on the oregon coast: priceless

thanks again for the help guys, always impressive!

PS: Made the mistake of taking the wifes Sienna to the Coast of Oregon last year....didn't want to risk getting stock on the beach!!!!! Was cursing for a day or two as I saw people cruising down the beach.
