A great big thanks to DeliTan for manufacturing the restraint cables for my car seat install. I finally got them in place and they work great. Full seat functionality and still easy enough to remove and install the car seat as needed. Only thing I might still do is sew up some canvas sleeves to go over the cables. They don't seem to rub against the seat so it may not be necessary.

One thing with all these DIY tether mounts is...are they legal? Be a smart idea to find out from ones insurance provider if they are happy with the way the seat has been installed. My understanding was that the tether had to be mounted to the body of the vehicle, not bolts on a seat.

Would hate to see a families child not be covered by insurance through an illegal install of a child seat.

That climbing rope tether is down right stupid.

I don't think anyone would intentionally install something that is not safe. Lacking data, other options, etc, I think most of us installed what our experience/logic dictated. Myself, I have towed a car out of a ditch with climbing rope that was not as thick as the one used in our van, using connections that were not as strong as the ones used here.
As for having to mount to the body of the vehicle, I guess several factory installs are illegal (eg. center belt of back seat of L300, many of todays SUV's with flip/fold bench seats).

as long as u have a three point belt through ur seat(instructions are on the seat) u dont legally have to use the rear teather,there are lots of vehicles that dont have these systems factory. As far as being attached to the body of the vehicle, all 2/3 of my other vehicles have the clip attatched to the seat backs. the other(s) is on the rear shelf(u couldnt attach the seat and still tighten without climbing into the trunk)
Good ideas guys...i seem to remember a thread a while back with a teather bracket attached to the captains chair seat track bolt, only prob i see with that is seat mobility once in use(would have to have a pretty long strap!

No need to get defensive son. By all means run the gauntlet on your daughters life and dont get your install looked at by your insurance provider.

Ah......would those be the same insurance people that have determined that RHD is so dangerous as to not provide insurance. If it is, I'll talke my chances with what I have come up with. If, on the other hand, you have some constructive input, I am all ears.
