15 seconds of fame or shame

Post by Aztec Nomad »

This might be pouring salt into the wound but, early this morning while watching the weather network a Delica was on t.v. from Vancouver. Unfortunately is was filmed for weather incidences around the country and the van was crushed by a huge branch that had snapped off a tree. I feel for you, whoever you are.
Cheers

The guy on the Weather Network called it an SUV >:^(

Haha! Ok I'll rescind my hate-mail to the Weather Network.

Maybe Squished Utility Van in this case :(

Yup. :-(

We're currently doing weather in ground school, and the instructor (who works for Environment Canada when he's not teaching n00bs like me to fly) is not a fan of The Weather Network...he thinks they have too few meteorologists, and place too much faith in computer models.

Just look at their 7 day forecasts on the internet compared to env. can.... usually day six and seven will say something like "high 32C" after 5 days of 8C...

Hey,
So did someone claim that it was theirs?
Agreed, the weather network isn't quite as accurate as the METAR or TAF's but it's great for a quick look in the morning at home for an idea of what the day has in order for you. Where are you getting your pilot's license? What are you flying? I got mine 11 years ago in a 172, good airplane, hard to screw up in it.

Langley Flying School, flying Piper Cherokee 140s (usually C-FKKF, occasionally C-GODP). If you can fly out of that tiny runway, you can fly out of anywhere. :-)

I did spins last Saturday. Whee! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX4lK-ud1fI

Hey,
Ya that looks familiar. I thought it wasn't required to go into a full spin anymore for your license.

Unlike our neighbours to the south, Canadians have to do spins for a PPL. We don't have to do them for our flight test, but we have to satisfy our instructor (and, indirectly, Transport Canada) that we know what a spin is and know what to do about it. Really know, not just know on paper.

After that it's spiral dives  , slipping (à la Gimli Glider), then circuits, circuits and more circuits (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuit_%28airfield%29). After doing that for a while the magic moment will come when the instructor will hop out of the plane and tell me to go do a circuit myself... :-)

Hey,
That's funny, Gimli is where I got my PPL. You won't forget the moment when the instructor steps out and lets you take control for your first circut. I sang the whole way on downwind, but then bounced on the landing. Oh well, many more have come and gone with a few greasers in between. Good luck on you ride.
Cheers
