Finally saw a P15V in person!

Post by mararmeisto »

Okay, so I'm in Canadian Tire's parking lot the other day, parked next to a SpaceGear. Talk to the fellow when he comes out (it's his second Delica), and then I go inside. I come back out and there's a StarWagon, another SpaceGear and there at the other end of the lot - a 1993 Delica, LWB, cargo van. Sliding doors on both sides, 2WD, 5sp manual, 4D56 (non-turbo) with A/C (cool), 195/70R15 tires (little bit smaller than the StarWagon) - basically it's the work or simpler version of our beloved 4WD getaway vehicles.

Neil's a window washer and roof cleaner, so I had him come over to my house to take the moss of my roof while I crawled around his van. When he finished with my roof, I helped him change his oil and pointed out a couple of things to him. He was quite excited to learn there is a discussion group on the 'net, so I expect he'll wander by here at some point to introduce himself.

Otherwise, here's a couple of pics of his ride while it was in my driveway.

Did I mention it's a cargo van? LWB and with no seats or trim or heavy carpeting or rear ventilation and heating or extra 4x4 drivetrain, the cargo rating on the rear door is 850kg! And there's plenty of room to fit a bed in the back for camping (without having to remove or build over the seats).

The radio antenna is better arranged (I think) with a more traditional full-pillar mounting.

High roof, but without the extra drivetrain, the roofline is just over 6'6", making loading of the roof much easier, without a ladder.

Sliding doors on both sides - cool. In the step on each side, there is a little storage compartment - very handy.

I know Mardy's got one.

There's quite a few in Richmond/Vancouver area that have business signs on them. One glass shop has a few of them in their fleet and one tire shop that I know of.

They are pretty roomy and very long.

interesting, I'd always thought that the dual sliding doors were only available on the LHD version, interesting to see an RHD with them.
