Disabling a 'Door Ajar' Light on my Dash...

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Well, the light goes out when i use a screwdriver to push the double-lock system closed while i have the back hatch up...
So, do i adjust by undoing those three screws that hold the mechanism in place? tighten/loosen them, or take them right out to get at something?

I feel i'm getting close here! Yay!

I would move the striker plate on the hatch (not the door).

First go around the plate with a permanent marker so you can put it back in the same place (old trick for pulling the hood off a car to pull the motor).

Second loosen the two bolts slightly.

Three, lightly tap the plate closer to the outside world. Do up screws try closing door.

On my door you have to shut it with your hand on the license plate or it only locks on the first latch.

Hope it works...keep us posted.

I'll try that and get back to you...

Although, it seems there are THREE screws, not two, on my latch. Hmmm...

Not the latch on the door, but the thing it hooks to on the van floor. Adjust the van floor hooky thing

An easy way to adjust dashlights thats worked for me in the past is bananas ............. the stickers that is ...placed over the offending light is a safe and non invasive remedy from those annoying distractions, ........ tasty too!

yeah my previous temporary solution was a bit of electrical tape over the dash light :) I recently tried adjusting the latch part on the frame, even tried heating and bending it, and tried adjusting/lubing the latch mechanism on the door (still have no idea what "pin" we were talking about) to no success - so I just cut the wires.

Yeah...so it seems that when the bumper area was hit, it pushed the metal in just enough that the latch will catch, but the 2nd latch won't engage. Hence the light always being on.
I wonder if i could just slip the two wires off their connections to the latch, rather than cutting the wires???

Just disconnect it: there's a plug inside the door panel if memory serves.

And that's what i did! Seemed there were two connections: a large Grey one, and a faded White one.
After a bit of eeny-meeny-miny-moe, i pulled the Grey one.
Door Ajar light is now off! And the door lock still works from inside the van...whew.

Thanks everyone!
