Fuel filter problem solved!!

Post by dennis_lambert »

I changed my fuel filter out on my wifes Delica tonight for the first time,And now it runs for a bit and then eventually stalls.Has done it about 4 times until I killed the Battery.Thinking maybe an air lock....
Has anyone had this issue?
Where is a good spot to purge the system of air?
Thanks for your help.

Open the air valve and give it a couple of pumps until bubbles come out the valve. Then close the valve with the pump depressed. That will get any air out. Hope it helps.

There's the white plastic valve on the bottom, and a spongy pushbutton on the top.

Just to clarify, the white plastic valve is not for purging air, but to release any water in the filter.
The purge 'valve' is a nut/bolt about a 8 or 10 mm up top near the plunger.

The bleeding routine can be difficult with the new filter bolted in place.

The pumping and nut tightening can be done prior to final placement of new filter.

Try not to get too much fuel splatter, in fact stuff/ pack several rags in the area.

(Sounds crazy), but double check your inlet and outlet hoses.
Thanks,

I replace mine outside of the Delica and fill it up with fresh diesel prior to priming and installing.

Less air and makes it easier. :M

ive started my delica without bleeding the air several times. ill bet theres not an air lock, but an air leak? perhaps the filter is threaded wrong, or not enough...

Thanks for everyones help. When I get off work I will try to bleed it out.I did not realize the pump had a bleed port on top.I connected the filter and just pushed the pump up and down until it got difficult to pump.
So to clarify I need to open the bleed port on top of filter Assy and pump air out....
Thanks alot everyone.
Cheers
Dennis.

Thanks everyone for all the great info!
Problem solved :-)
It was I think a combination of air entering in through the Assy (Not quite tight enough) and I needed to crack the 10 mm bolt on top and pump the air out.Runs great again.
Cheers!
