batteries?

I just bought a 91 Delica exceed, I need to get new batteries can anyone tell me what brand I should buy? The ones that are in there now are Super Die hard 12 v, thats all the info I can see as the rest is written in Japanees

hi, just any brand you want, can buy from costco or lordco, whatever the warranty is good for you as long as its the same size, bring the van with you & they will know what size.

I like to use the red top optima batteries, they are super strong, can take any kind of beating and abuse and if you have any type of discount at lordco are not to expenisve , Yes they cost more than the liquid filled junk that can die if shaken to much, the optima's are jell filled and can be mounted upside down, not that you need to , but it shows how sturdy they are. and I like the 1000CCA (cold cranking amps) so I can leave my lights on my accident or the stereo for a couple hours and not worry about being able to start up my vehicle , extra piece of mind if im in the bush...

Hey I want to jump start my delica, and since there are 2 batteries and it seems the positive terminals are located in a awkward place. Is there any special way to hook up the jumper cables?

o.k. just hook-up the positive & negative on one side only of the battery . then your on your way to jump start. try to put the cable facing towards the door.not the one facing the engine, then your o.k. make sure you put the rightway o.k. pls dont make mistake on positive & negative otherwise big problem on relay & glow plug ECU. this is very sensitive vehicle when doing jump start.

I've been boosted many times, and done the boosting many times, and haven't had any problems yet. <knock wood>

Okay, let's try this posting again ... Do you mean the Delica is sensitive when it is boosted? Or when it is doing the boosting?

I've been on both the giving and receiving end many times with many vehicles, and never had a problem. But I always recommend the boosting vehicle leave the engine turned OFF, and I disconnect the jumper the moment the dead vehicle starts. Both those measures minimize interactions between the alternators and voltage regulators.

modern vehicle manufacturers generally suggest leaving the boosting vehicle off so as to isolate the sensitive electronics a bit more, however the down side is that if the boosting vehicle's battery is not top notch, and it's a hard start, you could end up with TWO dead vehicles... so I generally leave mine running when giving a boost, however I make sure that *I* attach the cables to reduce the likelyhood of things being connected wrong....
I did boost one vehicle with the delica, but it didn't require much (which was good, because I didn't have proper jumper cables, and the wire I was using was actually fused at 30A....)

the reason that i said that this delica is sensitive when boosting other car is that the glow plug relay circuit board of this delica is easy to burn out,& if you keep trying boosting your delica & nothing wrong, good for you cause i encounter this problem already. so if you want to keep doing it that way its up to you , its your car just relying my experience thru some of my delica.

Mardy: you're saying that it's the glow plug relays that have the issue, would this still be an issue if the Delica was off when you tried to boost another vehicle?
Also is the Delica or the other vehicle the one being boosted?

(I'm saying I've never had problems, that doesn't mean I want to start having issues now!)

If the Delica is turn off its o.k., but sometime we forgot, the main problem is the relay circiut board then sometime go to the relay cause of over volts when delica is running when boosting it. the glow plug circuit board is very sensitive & the design is not quite strong on my opinion as we always encounter this kind of problem.
so in short better leave the delica not running when boosting but make sure its in the proper boosting like positive to positive , not the wrong way . just precaution to avoid this problem.

Thanks, I do know that the glow plug relays on the Delica are known to be a bit fragile, so I'll keep that in mind when I boost people from now on...
