ItsiBishi
We have had our van for six months now and love it, finally decided to introduce ourselves even though we were at one of the mini-meets at Ikea and met a number of you. Turns out that our van is one of the few that still has its curtains, who knew? We call our van Itsibishi for obvious reasons. It is a great family vehicle, our daughter loves getting into her car seat as she can see very well. Our son does not really care yet as he is only a week old, however the vibrations put him right to sleep. Bad news though I was just rear-ended on Thursday, thankfully it was only me in the van. I have to tell you that the L400 is a solid piece of machinery, I feel fine and I only registered it as a pretty bad bump when I got hit. Unfortunately Itsibishi's bumper is messed up and the rear door does not fully latch anymore. I took it ICBC and they told the tired rhetoric that they will probably ban right hand drives late this year or early next year. They then told me that they are giving me a bare bones estimate as the Delica is not in their system. It was the first Delica that the adjuster had seen so I told him, that meant Delica drivers were better than average then. He had no comment. After the adjuster looked at Itsibishi, I called Japanoid as I had bought my van from them and asked if they knew anyone who does body work on these vans, they recommended Royal City Auto Painting. I will let people know what type of work they do when they finish with my van. I am worried though about getting replacement parts, and how long my van will be out of commission as we have come to rely on it greatly. It sucks having to put the kids into our Cavalier. Ah the joys of life to have the high of my son being born last Saturday to the pain of my van being damaged on Thursday.

Hi there, and welcome!
Would you mind elaborating on the part where the adjuster mentioned they would be banned late this year or next?
Seems like he knows something we don't..

Good point Pajerry, I second that motion. Did you happen to get his name? That strikes me as an abuse of authority, spreading rumours from that sort of position.

Re: ItsiBishi
Not sure if this is news, but from the ICBC website, perhaps they are considering expanding the ban to 25 years up from 15:
http://www.icbc.com/road-safety/safety- ... hand-drive
The usual statistical nonsense not taking driver age and type of vehicle into account, but if you look at the Q&A third down on the right, it seems like they must at least be considering this, or else why post it?

I can't believe they are still referencing that BS "report" or theirs.tonydca wrote:Not sure if this is news, but from the ICBC website, perhaps they are considering expanding the ban to 25 years up from 15:

Who writes this stuff? A "..." is implied, I think? How they managed to make the site copy as ambiguous as their policy is amazing.ICBC wrote:Q: I own a right-hand-drive vehicle that was imported under the 15-year "import rule." If the rule is changed from 15 to 25 years, how will my vehicle be affected?
A: If you registered and insured an imported vehicle for on-road use under the 15-year rule, it won't be affected. (The 15-year rule exempted imported vehicles 15 or more years old from Canadian vehicle safety requirements.) However, if you replace the vehicle with another rig.
What we need is an independent study.

Re: ItsiBishi
I'm betting they already have all the info; all we need is an independant review of the data broken down by age of driver, and vehicle weight (<1000kg = kei cars, 1000-2000kg = Skyline and related hotrods, >2000kg = Delica and other trucks).RichD wrote:Who writes this stuff? Guess what category I'm betting will show the most accidents?...

Besides, what crock of horse-sh!t implies that a 25-year old car is less dangerous than a 15-year old one?

Re: ItsiBishi
Moreover the claim that driver age and experience is a negligible statistical factor, which is a central assumption of the ICBC paper.tonydca wrote:what crock of horse-sh!t implies that a 25-year old car is less dangerous than a 15-year old one?

Re: ItsiBishi
Itsibishi is back on the road and looking great. Would definitely recommend Dan and Royal City Auto Painting. Still need to talk to ICBC because they say that they will not pay for an alignment, which I definitely feel is important after being hit. Do not know anything else about ICBC's plans except what I already posted.
