Seeking my first Delica

Post by borealtransition »

Hi Everybody,

I'm new here and am interested in purchasing a Delica.

Ideally I would like: turbo diesel; 4wd; P35W high roof as I am 6'2"; automatic would be great but I could adapt to a manual: ideally no accidents and no rust; off road lighting and front brush guards would be nice; mileage in the 100k's or less (but DEL BiG RiG's "Purple Haze" is starting to look really good - especially after MrsDaisy's recommendation); does not need to be fully loaded or have a perfect exterior/interior - just needs to be solid and reliable.

I will be arriving in Vancouver later today and will be in the area for a few weeks. Can anyone recommend or provide feedback on some of the local import dealers who may have Delica's in stock? Is there anything I need to look for when test driving?

Thanks,
Guy

Surely one of you kind people is willing to share your experiences to a newbie. I have never experienced a delica before so I have no idea what to watch out for. There must be some things I can look out for to prevent getting one with mechanical issues. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

Can't believe no ones replied to you? Anyways, I'm on the island so I don't know any of the dealers on the mainland. I would say to look for the same things you would on any vehicle. Is it clean? Does look like it was maintained? Any rust? fluid leaks? Drive it, how does it drive? does it drive straight, make a lot of noise, smoke a lot? Do the brakes feel good? Stuff like that. Then find out what they will service before you buy it. It should have belts, hoses, timing belt, cam belt, new fluids, brakes and bearings inspected as well as updated headlights, front and rear side markers and a daytime running light module. We haven't had ours long enough that I can suggest anything too Delica specific to look for other than maybe engine mount and sway bar bushings, it seems they are often worn out. Good luck.

Hi,

There's two dealers that I know of;
Japanoid in New Westminster (http://www.japanoid.com)

There's another one, on #3 Rd north of Cambie in Richmond.

Then there's a few listing on http://www.craigslist.org in the Vancouver section.

l still don't have mine but l'm slowly looking into it. Just don't buy the one that l should be buying! kidding

Best of luck,
David

Hi, Im on the island , but I have a p35 highroof right now , Its in great shape, just inspected and has new tires and the interior is like brand new. It is most likely sold on tuesday , but if not then its available, and I have a P25 regular roof that arrives august 3 and will be ready about a week and half after that. Neither are from auctions, I have my vans hand picked in japan and have a full history of them.
both are private sales as I bought them befor registering my company.
