L400 Air Intake

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

L400 Air Intake

Post by Mr. Flibble »

I was looking at the air intake on my L400 (sorry, no photos, it is dark at the moment) and I noticed that the air intake seems to come from inside the bodywork next to the air filter?

Is the actual air intake coming in from the body down by the wheel?

I wish I could describe this better, but the intake next to the air filter matches up against the side of the body quite neatly.

On a side note, is the L400 filter washable? And where (in Victoria) can filters for a L400 be found? (I know where to find them in Vancouver.)

It comes in from the wheelwell/front quarterpanel (airflow)

Brakeclean + air hose and blower.

But I'd rather get a new air filter. It makes a big difference new compared to old/dirty.

This is a common point for air intakes from this time-period onward. As the front grille of vehicles started to disappear, the routing of air flow over and into the engine began to take different paths than direct.

One advantage to having the air intake tucked into the fender like that is a lessening of bug impacts and road spray (nothing destroys a paper filter like water). I also read once that a smoother airflow is possible (i.e. air flow into the engine is not as affected by gusts, which is important in the ever-increasing amount of computerization that we begin to see in vehicles at this point).

I agree, I just made this mod to my strada as before it was sucking in hot air from in the engine bay. Now I just have to eliminate the 'whizzing' sound it has made (most likely because its not sealed from the engine bay yet and sucking air in from all sorts of directions or a burr in the pipe).

Well, I will be modifying it even more when I install my L400 Snorkel on my Deli in a month or two :-D . I think I will be the first L400 owner to have a Snorkel fitted in Canada... :o Makes me nervous.
