Nissan Safari info!

Post by SquamptonRyan »

hello delica world

I know some of you out there have recently added a safari to your stable. I was just wondering if you would be willing to share some info on your first impressions. (ie engine performace, ride, milage, cruising speed ect.)

If I was ever to replace the beloved l300 a safari would be an option, I'm just curious how the 4.2 6cyl non turbo pulls it around! the safari weighs in at about 300kg more than the delica, but also has a few more ponys.

thanks, happy safari!!

Hi!

Just a quick response to get you going...
Have you checked these sites?
www.patrol4x4.com
www.outerlimits.com

They have tons of info, the first one more easy to navigate and the second one more technical.

The Safari I have is a 5spd, NA with the 4.2 and it goes much better/nicer than the Delica but I still miss my 300 once in a while (this is a Delica forum after all so can't afford to be toooooo nice to the Safari...). Yes it's faster and smoother if that's what you want to know. It's also quieter, more stable and a work horse in the trails. I don't think I'd bother with a AT but after '93 the AT had the turbo option while the LWB MT never had a turbo.

As for room it's very similar if you measure but I'm still convinced the 300's room was more usable. Those captain chairs at the back are hard to beat...

The Safari (Patrol) is basically a tank with power steering! Extremely heavy duty. Initial maintenance is pretty decent but be ready for pricey oil change: about 12L of oil and 2 filters!

Mileage when properly tuned is about 10.5L/100k on hwy and 14.5L/100km in the city, excellent for this type of trucks.

Offroad still beats the Delica hands down but the Delica is skinnier so at times it's nicer to be in the Delica...

Hope this help and don't worry, if you ever make the change you won't regret it. Just get a nice unit...

Cheers,
David
