Re: DELICA JB500 RV?
I drove one 2 years ago.
Mammoth space inside !
Pro's = tons of space and lots of hookups and of course diesel
Con's = No power (2.5L non-turbo), poor mpg, not suitable for offroad
The one thing that I didn't like was they used the stock wheelbase length (very short) and didn't use a 1-T rear axle like the Toyota and Nissan's do.
It's a cool camper though

Re: DELICA JB500 RV?
I have one. I picked it up in January. So far I've put about 5,000 k on it and it's everything I wanted and more. Several weeks ago I took it from N BC to Sask and back without any issues, although I lost the cap for the water holding tank somewhere in Jasper Park. Interior has a great layout and will sleep two adults (I'm 6 ft 2) and two kids fairly easily. Great for weekends in the bush!
The design of these campers is fairly common and can be seen in units other than Delicas. So far I've been able to find every replacement part I needed, including a water pump and a table clamp.
This thing was shipped from Japan with a half full propane tank and a full hot water tank. The hot water tank froze, but luckily did not burst. I had to change the propane tank because Japanese tank outlets are shaped slightly different than NA. You can fit a 20 lb tank into the storage locker. That'e enough for at least a week as long as you don't run the furnace.
The interior on mine was covered with a very fine soot that took several days of intensive washing and shampooing to remove. I don't know where it came from...maybe from being stored in a diesel shop, but that's just a guess.
Conversion costs to enter Canada were about $2500, including a set of 5 Goodyear Wranglers and two new batteries...one for the motor and one for the camper. I've since added a second one for the camper and can go a week without recharging.
Do you have any specific quesitons?

Could the soot have come from the operation of the furnace?tigger wrote:...The interior on mine was covered with a very fine soot that took several days of intensive washing and shampooing to remove. Furnace is propane and works properly, so I don't think so. It was very fine soot, like diesel exhaust. It might also have come from a warehouse fire where the Deli was stored. Not sure, but it came off most surfaces fairly easily.
