Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Tips on removing rear trunk window?

Post by snelson »

Guys,
I'm finally  removing my rear window to fix my rusty/bubbly bits under the rear 'trunk' window.
When prying out the glass, am I prying the glass out of the rubber seal? Or am I supposed to be prying the entire rubber and glass from the 'body'?
Never done this sort of thing before.....
Thanks
Steve

Apparently, because it's a dry-fit window:
  • -get a thin stiff wire (not sure if a coat hanger will work) or a thin narrow flat-bar
-push through a piece of string
-push through other end of string at opposite end of window
    -two-person pull, third/four persons catch
Replacement is a gentle placement fit and push into the frame.

Never tried it myself, but this is how it was described to me once.

Disclaimer: without the proper equipment and/or number of people, it's relatively easy to drop, watch fall, not catch or otherwise prevent one's vehicle glass from being a victim of gravity and shattering on the surface of the planet. Try the above removal procedure at your own risk to glass and toes.

Hmmm, I'm still not understanding this.

So I'm popping or separating the glass from the rubber trim piece?
Or am I separating the entire glass with rubber trim piece from the metal door frame??

Slip the string between the gasket and the frame. So glass and gasket come out together.

Refit is the reverse, put string around the rubber, offer it up to the hole, pull the string through from the other side, and the lip will pop over the frame.

Snelson,

A good trick is to grease up the string with vasaline. Try and use a braided type of string, or even butchers twine.

Hi, Steve

How did the rear window install go? I am looking to buy a Delica minus a rear window and would like to know if this job can be done without too much trouble.

Is there a wire hook up for the defrost?
Any and all tips would be helpful.

Thanks,
Christopher
