I have compiled my items in my shopping cart and now have to complete my purchase with Plantdrive. I am feeling a tad nervous now that 6 months of research has finally come to a head. Have I thought of everything??
Do I know what I hell I am going to do once it gets here?
JOsh, you seeemed to feel the same way when it was getting close to "I" Day (install day).

So I thought I would post my shopping list up and if any one notices something I have missed, give me a heads up.

1)TTVTS with VegMax filter
Same as TTVTS but with VegMax as opposed to Vormax.
2)Electric 12V Solenoid 3-Port Fuel Selector
3)NADA SVO Controller
4)Hotfox in tank heater

As for the tank I am going with a Tempo Tank where the spare usually sits in its cage.

Hey Sean,

Didn't get too far on my install over the weekend. My wife was away on Galiano Island and I was in charge of the kids so there wasn't much opportunity to do any serious work. I'm still wrestling with how to fit the 20Gal Jeep YJ tank in the spare tire spot. The only way it will fit is if I reroute the exhaust to exit in front of the rear wheel. I don't mind doing that, but I don't think I can do the work myself, so I have to find time to take it to a muffler place and see how much it will cost. Looking for suggestions on where to take it.

Which Tempo tank are you going? How much are they? It might be cheaper for me to just abandon the YJ tank and go for something that will fit with the existing exhaust. Another issue I have is that I need a sending unit. Did you get one with your tank, or does the hotfox do the job of sending?

Mine is up and running great. I had one slight problem with an air leak that I fixed in a couple hours (and felt competent the whole time! which was a comfort). I have just spent a part of today filtering WVO, and am going on a long weekend trip to Alaska! Yippie...

So, do you have two 3 port solenoinds? If you are doing it yourself the 6 port through plantdrive may be a better option. The directions are easier on the 6 port controller. I have two of the 3 ports, but the 6 is what Kev and Andy have... seems to be a good idea.

Anyhow, I know how stressed you must feel right now, I was exactly the same. Hopefully you will feel a bit better when you get things underway, I know I did. It is pretty straight forward. Good Luck, PM if you need any help... I'll do my darndest.

Oh and have either of you guys started filtering your oil? or decided how/where you are going to do it? I am amazed at how long it has taken me to get it thrown together, I wished I would have started prior to the install.

I am going with the 3 port because I am adding on the NADA controller so I have a no brainer system to switch over.

As for filtering I am lucky because I have partenerd up with a buddy who has been collecting for a year. the whole reason I got the diesel was because he was talking about how he had double what he was using and wished he could share with someone...I took the plunge. He has worked out many of the kinks and we have just designed and built a skookum new collection barrel with hard plumbing, strainer, pump and filter with quick connects. Water tight lid and bulkhead fitting with valve to drain out crap from bottom.


As for the tank Adam they seem to range from $160.00 to $200. The one that seemes like it will fit the best is the 42 litre. My only concern is making sure I leave enough room at the top to elbow the fill line into the tank since all of the ports are on the top. I probably need at least 1" of space.

As for my list I am guessing neither of you saw anything that I was missing?

Just had a great conversation with Edward Beggs, Plant Drive guy. Wanted to make sure I had all my duck in a row. Well they were a little staggered .

He pointed me in the direction of the TTVTM instead of the TTVTS. No controller, just the early switch over preventer. So now I can go with the 6port solenoids .

He had just finished converting a Delica yesterday for a guy in Victoria. So the whole setup was fresh in his mind. He walked me through were he thought everything should go, is going to send me pictures of the install, and had some real insights into the ease of installation and how well suited he believed the Delica to be for Veggie oil. All good news!!!

With the new recommendations for my sytem he also is saving me $250 so that will pay for my tank.

I am not feeling as nervous as I was yesterday . Seems like a very smart fellow and was very willing to chat at great length. I am sure he is a busy guy. So I will order it all tonight.

We did talk about the low running temperature of the Delica's and he did have some concern but thought that with all 3 ways to heat the oil 1) Hotfox 2)Vegemax and 3)Vegetherm sensor, that all would be well. When he installed yesterday he told the guy from Victoria to get a new temp gauge cause he thought it might be broken.

The list looks pretty complete to me. More so than mine here's what I ended up getting:

1)TTVTS with VegMax filter.

2)SVSW60C Early Switchover Preventer (~60C/140F). This was recommendded to me as the cheapest 'no-brainer' switching system. The idea is that you can flip the WVO switch in the cab as soon as you start, but this little unit prevents the pollack value from switching over to WVO until you engine coolant reaches 140F in the VegMax.

3) Facet "Posi-flo" Auxilary Electric Fuel Pump. It's a 4-6 psi fuel pump from NAPA (auto part number: 610-1050) to push the thick cold WVO oil since I didn't spring for a HotFox.

Sean's the one getting this pics sent to him, but hopefully he'll send them to me as well. Now I'm wondering if I add a HotFox too. I got the impression one was only needed if you were going to be dealing with sub-zero temps, not a common occurence down here, but I can see why Josh needed one

Just want to add that being 15 years old rigs, the thermostats should be changed. I don't exactly know if it's due to the old ones sticking slightly open all the time, but all the Delica I've drive run cooler then ones that have had the thermostats changed. The half dozen or more Delicas I have driven read only a quarter up the temp scale, running with a new thermostat the gauge reads at the half way point. Most importantly, the gauge does not spike over the mountains anymore (our two did before) and just stays at half way up.

This should be a must for WVO Delica's, ah heck all of them - add it to the list of "recommend things to do to your fresh off the boat Delica".

Good to know Kev, that job has been added to the list. I seem to have a list that keeps getting bigger even though I am checking stuff off weekly

I was thinking about that originally. It sure would simplify mounting, but the space looked rather small to me, wasn't sure that it would hold more than 8 Gal. Keep me posted on the cost though, I'm sure it'll be cheaper than rerouting my exhaust and using my existing tank. It sure will be hard to give up the dream of a 20 Gal tank with a built in skid plate.

Do you have the dimensions of the Jeep tank. I can measure up what will fit in that hole for the spare tire as everything is out of there for me. I also want a 20 gallon tank back there. I was thinking of going to the wreckers and getting one, fitting it the armouring it. I think the biggest concern would be depth of the tank, to deep would leave back end with no clearance.

Just did a quick measure as I'm heading out the door for Quadra. It's 34.5" (make it 36" including outlets at the top) x 17" (make it 21" including skid plat lips) x 12" deep.

James - be sure to check out a Jimmy's tank, I looked at a 2002 GM Jimmy/blazer tank that measured and looked like a great fit. Being a 4x4 GM it was a plastic tank with a skid plate, just that one had a hole torn in the side and the pickup removed.

Nope, no rubber lugs on the straps. I'm sure I can find something at Home Depot to stick on the top of the tank to use as a spacer and to prevent the tank from moving around. Do you have any shots of the rubber lugs? Turns out the place we are staying at on Quadra has wireless internet, so I don't even have to spend the weekend unplugged
