First trip (mini ) in our new Delica

Post by Erebus »

Wha-hoo! After almost 3 months of waiting, we finally got to see our Delica last Friday, but couldn't pick it up until Wednesday.

We had seen lots of photos, but that isn't the same thing as getting into the driver's seat and turning the key.

Today Lesley and I went for a little road trip, just a couple of hours, and had ourselves a picnic in Bragg Creek Provincial Park. Lesley is on crutches from foot surgery a couple of weeks ago, so she can't even get into the front passenger seat. But she's not complaining, she sits in the back, facing back, controlling the sound system.

We haven't changed out the Japanese sound system yet, so can't get FM. Ha! Just plug a walkman-type radio's headphone jack into the TV input in the soundstage and rock on. Or, plug the iPod in that way. When I'm driving alone? Easy, 25 foot extension cord and have the iPod or radio on the centre console. Rockin'!!!!!

Unfortunately in the excitement, we forgot to bring the camera. So here is a photo of it back in front of the house.

(For you tire snoops out there, the tires are Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos LT235/75R15. I went with the light truck rather than passenger version because we plan to do the Dempster Highway next summer, and that highway is famous for eating tires, so the tougher the better. The Deli should be a great vehicle for doing the Dempster.)

Wheeeeeee!! Can you tell :-D we're excited?

( I know, still have to change my avatar and sig files.)

Congratulations Fred!

Good choice on tires, they get good reports on other forums. Take an after picture for us; dusty and bug covered Delica! :-D

Thanks. Actually, the photo IS an after photo. We only went about 10 km on gravel -- which quite possibly is the nearest to off-roading this has ever gotten. But that will change.

Today we went for another drive, another 200 or so kilometres, quite a bit on gravel.

And of course we had to get a good photo, so:

Not exactly deep woods yet, but we'll get there (sorry crusher).

The tires seem pretty good, although they like to pick up stones and flick them about.

Every time we stop, we end up talking to someone about the Delica. Today a guy driving a 1972 Grand Ville (that he bought new in 72) had to check it out. He thought the Deli was pretty special. In 3 stops we got waylaid twice. I feel like a proud Dad with a newborn :-D
