Good procedure for pulling the L300 engine?

May have to pull the engine and wondering if someone can direct me to a good link.procedure on this. Who has pulled a motor on this site and how long did it take? Thanks!

67 views and no one has pulled a deli motor?

I haven't but I gave it lots of looking when I did my radiator and belts.

here is what I saw:

Disconnect the Battaries
Pull the seats and access both sides
Pull the radiator and fan and heater hoses
Pull the power steering pump (leave on chassis)
Pull airconditioner compressor (leave on Chassis)
Disconnect alternator wires
Pull the intake houses to the turbo
remove exhaust pipe from turbo
Pull the throttle cable and gas lines to the injector
Pull and labble all wire connectors and vacumm hoses between the motor and anything else
Pull the starter
Support the transmission at front bottom
Pull bolts on bellhousing and undo the torgue converter on automatic
undo engine mounts
Take the left hand door off (mark the hinges with marker first) I assume it goes out this side due to steering wheel
attach engine hoist with adjustable load bar (keep chain very short as lift height will be a problem)
lift engine up and foward Check everything is undone and clear.
Pull motor and fix problems

Now that's helpful thanks - lots of padding I am sure to avoid fluid spills etc and I am sure chain must be short -wonder how fast this could be done by someone who has done this a few times -

Give yourself about 19 hours, if you're changing all the seals (highly recommended, also use red threadlock to glue in the seals), waterpump etc.

Should I pull engine, (if I make this purchase) I think I will create a sticky for this site with pics as I am certain the lifting/rotating of the engine out of the cab is a little tricky -thanks!

Probably worth cracking the headbolts in situ.

I agree, sometimes it all comes down to a few extra inches - I think I would make plywood forms that rest against various interiors panels to avoid smashing something inadvertently - still cannot believe there is not a complete procedure on this (l300 engine pull) site for this with good pics -

I guess 90% of the members here don't have the tools or skills to pull a whole engine. The other 10% do it for a living and are either too busy to post or want to keep their secrets.

I woudl again just do a leak down test to diagnose the problem.

Or pull the head (still hard to tell if it a bad ring unless there is damage).

I have not looked to closely but I suspect it is easier to go out the bottom with a car hoist.

If you're serious about trying this I would first stop in and chat with Mardy when he's back or the guys at CVI. A quick chat and a couple coffee's could go a long way....

Before you pull your engine do a leak down test....it will isolate either the rings or the valves.....could save you many hours,$$ and knuckle skin!
