Help, broke down in tofino

Post by Bandwidth »

Hey ya'll, Im in tofino and woke up to a deli that screamed bloody murder upon startup and an engine temp gauge that never moved off of say 830 is now climbing toward 10-11. I get a retching squealling when I turn the steering wheel hard and appear to have lost some coolant. Dan from long beach automotive was kind enough to have a quick look but the shop is closed till monday. Any suggestions ?? may be just waiting it out till monday but would love any tips or advice you can muster.

thanks

You should get her towed to CC Autos. They are closest.

Sounds like a slipped belt or screwed waterpump
if it's a screaming mimi (or pulley. Ect.)
And would make sense if you waterpump is
Not turning enough or not working (higher temps)
I am not particularily religious but I will pray
You did not cook the head.

Have to agree on getting it to CC,they
Do know the Deli there...

Try and enjoy the beach and such
You did go all that way!

250-954-2157 is CCautos number

You got BCAA? Would be possibly pay for itself by
Monday Eh! :-D

The previous owner put a ton of work into that Deli,
I suspect its something simple but I would not drive it
Until you get it figured.

Good Luck :M

HI Ash, Do you have a cell phone or any contact other than this forum. At this time of year, there may be other Deli folk over that way on vacation.

Absolutely do NOT be tempted to drive it if the temp guage is over half way, teeny tiny engine overheated gets very expensive very quickly. Yes Coombs is your place, they have a huge farm like back yard, so you can just camp there.

If you have to get back to the mainland before Coombs finishes it, they could drive you to the ferry, and I will pick you and gear up at this side. Or Coombs may have a loaner vehicle.

Regards, Christine. I will PM you our phone numbers, we are in Burnaby, but we might be able to get you information if you need it.

How about firstly just checking your belt tension on all visible accessory belts and checking all fluids including Power steering. If your fan belt is slipping it would squeal and not pull enough air through the rad therefore causing a heating issue. Check the simple stuff before crying wolf.

water pump is gone. they have a hole to let coolent leak out when the seal goes. Sounds like the bearing is going now. It would be risky to drive it far. Good time to do the timing belts since the labour will be the same.

Best of luck

Talked to Dave this morning; sounds like the water pump problem. Hmm... A brand new pump installed in March 2008. Anyway CC Autos will take care of it on Monday.

Salvation!! At the hands of CCauto.

Cc auto took great care of us , arranged a tow, picked up the fam from the bus and was going to drive em to the ferry but fixed the van instead! Turned out to be a bolt attaching the alternator sheared and was causing a jam, all belts still turned but not functioning properly, hence god-awful squeal!

I was tempted to make the drive but backed off after reading the posts not too , so thanks for that everyone, I needed a little calm in my storm.
Best part is my wife who was skeptical of all my scanning of this forum actually uttered the words "thank god for delica.ca" ! A convert before my very eyes , such a beautiful thing. :M

Hi Ash and family, so glad it all turned out OK.

CC Autos and Glen deserve a MILLION thanks for getting you and the Delica back from the wilds of Tofino, and then getting your van back on the road so quickly (especially on a weekend). That's why we love Coombs Country Autos.

Cheers, Christine.

Okay fellas, let's end this here. I hate it when people pick fights, especially in the name of community and noble righteousness. This thread is now closed.
