No heat in the back

Post by FredVenne »

Good morning everyone!

Again, I am sorry if this has already been talked about, but have been looking in the forum and did not find anything...

So here is my little problem, I don't have any heat in the back. It is setup for heat and the "cool" knob is NOT on cool. In front it is also setup on heat and it is blasting heat, but not in the back. Wonder if it has something to do with the thermostat, which I know I have to change or if there is a switch underneath to allow the coolant to go in the back (like some busses).

So if any of you guys can help me or just confirmed that it is the thermostat, go ahead!

By the way our little Sushi SnowBall is still at the inspection for engine bushing, front axle boot and rear axle seal... everything else is super clean, according to the inspector... cannot wait to go on the road!

Cheers!

Fred

Hey Fred, the first thing to confirm is that you have the vent lever set to blow air out the bottom vents. It's set up so that heat won't go out the top vents, only the bottom.

If that's not it, I remember other folks having similar problems and it turned out to be plugged up hoses leading to the rear or plugged rear heater core (flush needed). You may want to check that too. Search on "+rear +heat" and that should find you some posts.

do you hear a fan blowing in the back? the fan is under the van, below the rear heater controls. 9 times out of 10 fan repair is a matter of simply banging the fan!

Thanks Steve, I will look into this... sounds pretty much it, I was only feeling (while driving) the top vent and it was cold. So will look the bottom ones.

after oil, air is blowing fine, so the fan is working, thanks!

I remember in the winter of 2008/09 I was walking out from London Drugs and seeing a clump of snow hanging from under the MLB so I kicked it and the snow fell off only to reveal my squirrel fan from the rear A/C. I must of landed on it when exploring the Squamish Valley in December of that year. I doubt that is your problem, 'though. Question: Is this the standard rear A/C or is this something special that comes as a camper accessory?

Falco, it is the standard rear a/c on the side behind the drivers seat.

I searched for "rear heater" and came up with a number of posts, this thread being amongst them: No Rear Heat

See if this helps... smiles.
