no dash lights.....

Post by brewskie »

My 18 month old som was playing in the van. He decided to put a penny into the lighter opening on the dash. I didn't notice he did it until I fired up the van and noticed no dash lights, no radio, no tail lights, no side indicator, flashers or signals. I think that's it. You think just the fuses are toast or could it be more serious?

thanks for the help

Check your fusible links. See if you have any molten plastic plugs in the battery compartment.

I bet on a fuse .... there are some inline fuses hiding behind your glovebox as well

Could have been worse, a mate of mine left timing pins in a perkins in his landy, his son decided to try and start it while dad was out. Locking the flywheel and cam then applying power to the starter does it no favors.

I was considering fitting a second cigarette lighter, and I recall tracking it down to being one of the glove box fuses, although i could as usual be wrong.

H Brewski, Falco is correct check the fusable links near the positive post on the battery, they look like four wires sticking out of a 2 inch-ish plastic box. with each of the 4 wires doing a loop in and out of the box. If they are not burned out follow the wire harness from the fusable link box towards the motor about 6 inchs and look for two plugs, see if the connectors aren"t toast. this is easier to do if you pull the battery out. Basically, the metal penny caused a short circuit. good day,

Christine, I just PM'd you back. Seems its all fuse related. Needed to replace 3 15amp fuses and no visual issues in around the battery. We are back up and motoring with all systems go.

Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.

have a good one.

Rob
