Anyone else get caught in the "Squamish Trap"?

Post by hesser »

Driving home to Squamish today from the city and I was met with a big suprise. As I entered our beautiful little town I saw a line of cars and the police. It seems the police decided to set up a traffic stop to check ALL vehicles for deffinicies. Well, I have recently acquired my first Deli and am loving it. However, I received my new deli with a crack in the windshield and as a result I was pulled over and given a ticket to have it fixed within 21 days or receive a $500 fine. Now, I know what your thinking, "pay your deductable and off you go". I wish! I just have the bare bones insurance........ Now, how much is a new windshield going to cost?!?! Sad thing is, the crack is not very big at all. Oh well, my bad luck I guess.

A new windshield could cost as much as $450, installation extra. http://www.japanoid.com/store/index.php ... cts_id=157

Insurance isn't going to pay for a crack that was in the windshield when you bought it... :?

"Now, how much is a new windshield going to cost?!?!"

How about trying to repair the crack? Check "Crack Masters" for specialized auto windshield repair; depending on the specifics of the crack, they maybe able to save your windshield.

Check them out in the Phone Directories.

It's a lot cheaper than a full/new windshield.

No not at all. No, not specifically. I asked what was going on and he pointed to my window and said "we're looking for things like this". So they were pulling over people with cracks in their windshields, burned out headlight/taillight, indicator bulbs, marker bulbs. I counted about eight Police cruiser as and maybe more officers. I am sure they are always on the look out for drinking and driving. They were there from 630-at least 830. They wrote A LOT of tickets last night. I am just peeved that I was one of them.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions as well. I am going to have to start phoning around today for a windshield. I won't be sad to have a fresh looking windshield, but my wallet is going to hurt a little!!!!

That is to bad. I was hoping it was more ..."have you had anything to drink tonight" and then you have a broken windshield here is a 21 day warning to get it fixed....

Good luck with the windshield...I have found if a shop knows you are paying cash and not through ICBC the prices are much lower (strange I know!)

Cheers

I am sure that those police were a special traffic unit that moves around the lower mainland targeting different infractions. Just bad luck on your part sorry to say.

I replaced a windshield a couple months ago and recently when driving along the #1 HWY construction I got a rock in my windshield again. By the time I got home the crack had become over 6in long :(

oh well

Japanoid prices are unreal; I would not use them as an example. I got a brand new windshield from CC Autos for $250 when Japanoid was selling a used one for the same price.

Just called over to the island to Coombs he referred me to another shop in Vic. Nice guys over there. They have one in stock which is great!! Now I just need to figure out how to get home. Don't really want to take the ferry there and back. I might as well buy it from Japanoid for way more at that point. Anyone coming to Van from Vic? Hug and a jug in it for you if you can bring my windshiedl!!!!! :-D

the last time i received a warning to replace my windshield within 21 days, it was from the integrated traffic safety unit(provincial cash cow) And when i took the vehicle to my local RCMP Detachment to show it was fixed, the constable said "I cant believe those @#$holes made u get it fixed, they have way more important things to do"

They are always set up on the langley/cloverdale border, willowbrook dr and 60th ave.

Not sure what your quote is on the cost of the windshield. Shipping charges should be anywhere from $50.00 to $100.00 max. Have your supplier give you the dims and wt than call ACE courier, National Courier or Greyhound for shipping charges. As well see if you can pickup directly from the courier companies as this will work out cheaper than door to door service. This still should work out much cheaper than buying from Japanoid.
