Delica + Underground parking

Post by EricN »

We have started looking at buying one of these after seeing it at a campsite in Whistler. My wife's #1 concern is her underground parking at superstore. As far as we know, the high roof will not clear (6'8" max clearance), I am just wondering what the height of the low roof model is? Also, does anyone with the low roof have any problems with any underground parking anywhere?

The standard roof will fit in (MOST) underground parking. but it also depends on any lift, Tire size, torsion bar settings, they are rarely the same height from van to van. under the front end there is a type of scoop that rams air into the radiator. if the van you bought was used for skiing as many were then alot of them have the front torsion bars cranked up , lifting the front end to help the scoop clear the snow on the ground. also these are 15years old so if the springs and leafs are settled the van will be lower. and if it was well maintained they might be replaced and the van will be higher riding. the only real way to know is to find out your clearance where you plan to park and take a tape measure . put one adult inthe front and measure from the top down.

I pick up my newest van today and its a regular roof, I can measure it and post the height tonight

My underground parking at home is also 2 meters/6'8". I measured a couple of Delicas on the lot at Japanoid over the weekend and they will fit, but it will be close. No big tires, no jacked-up torsion bars, no roof rack.

When mine comes I'll try it and see. I'd really like to use the parking garage instead of the outdoor parking lot.

when mine was basically stock with the 215 tires, no roof rack, and all that, I fit in MOST 6'6 parkades. I had a scrape at richmond center whe nI went up on the roof, that was pretty uncool. So a low roof should fit 6'8 ok, but if you do barely clear, be careful about which ones you go into, because I even made it under the yellow bar, but not under a part of a building, it was not a pleasant experience.

Thanks for the replies. I found one parked on the side of the road (right by my house oddly enough), and measured it against my truck, I think it should be ok too.

FYI

DON'T try to park at VIA (airport). I have to fix my roof from the rust spots... and got a good head start while trying to enter in to the parkade. The paint simply cleaned right of the crystal lite roof. LOL!

Calgary Airport is a pain too... you have to park in "overheight" parking, which works out more expensive than "short term" parking... (short term has the first half hour free... overheight doesn't)

Save on more parking lot on Kingsway, Burnaby left some good pin striping on the family Delica. :o It's good and bad, nobody ever sees the roof on a crystal lite model.
