Long term storage of a Delica

Post by negativentropy »

Hello all,

having acquired a nice mint '95 Delica in august I am moving to Europe for at least a year, possibly two. I have no intention of selling this van - I love it already and intend to drive it into the ground. So I have to store it... I searched this forum, and with google and have come up with the following long term storage strategy - id highly appreciate any additions and comments!

1. Krown treatment (a professional rust proofing procedure)
2. Replace engine oil, filter
3. Top up all other fluids (7'000Km since this was imported and fully serviced by Mardy)
4. Fill diesel tank right to the neck, mix in fuel additive
5. Have engine fogged?
6. Stuff openings with steel wool (rodents)
7. Desiccant and deodorant in cabin
8. Turn off AC and close all vents
9. Leave windows open a crack
10. Disengage parking brake
11. Park under a roof
12. Put on blocks
13. Disconnect battery
14. Remove wipers
15. Cover vehicle

Look forward to your assistance!

Do you want to store it outside? Where do you live? Climate?

It will be stored under a roof that extends from a shed. So it wont be rained on, but not fully inside either. Location is Niagara, Ontario - mild winters, humid hot summers.

If you cover the van, ensure that the cover breathes to allow any condensation on the inside to escape. The "cheaper" covers do not allow this.
