Bigger Tires with offset rims

I'm looking at buying new tires. 285 75 r16

I've heard lots of people fitting 33 x 12.5 x r15 and being able to fit them with large offset (-25/-30) (approx 3.25 backspacing)
Being that the tires i'm looking at are slightly smaller in both height and width I think i should be safe, however I am having a hard time finding rims with more then -12 (3.75 inch backspacing)


Has anyone had experience fitting larger tires?? or just offset 16 inch rims??

What is the rim width you are talking about?

33 12.5 r15 fit on 9", 10" or 11" wide rims

285 75 r16 fit on 8" and 9" wide rims

That will determine your offset and how far your tires are going to stick out.

And which width does the "other people" use for 33" to get this kind of offset?

Are you looking for steel or alloy?
If steel these two companies make them to any specs you want (and they are not even expensive):

Also keep in mind if you go with that much negative offset you put a lot of stress on your other components.

they use 15 inch rims to accommodate standard tire sizes (ie. 33inch)

Still, you need to know what width they are using for a nice fit and no rubbing. The rim diameter doesn't make a difference.

Let's say they us a 9" wide rims and -25 offset.
Your rim with 8" width and -12 offset has the same inner clearance but the outside edge of the wheel is retract by 26mm. So you are probably fine in terms of rubbing, but your stance is not as wide. Looking at the photos of your link, it seems like their tires stick out too much anyway, so the rim you found seems a good fit.

I would be very surprised if you find a alloy rim in 16x8 with anywhere close to -25 offset

I used 15x8 and 16x8 rims with 3.75" backspacing on our Pajero and that put the tires just a hair past the factory flares. 33x12.5" tires

Any more and I was rubbing on the rear inner wheel well. That was with a 2" body lift

good to know!!! that was one of my concerns. I think a fair few of those dudes in england put big wheels/"tyres" on their trucks and never flex them out fully to have rubbing issues. It seems to me that with 3.75inch backspacing and an inch wider rim would line the outside of the rim with the outside of fender which seems about right.

Well I was able to locate rims with 3.25 backspacing. So .I ordered plain black "daytona" style rim's
IF Anyone needs, They are a 6 x 5.5 Pattern with a 108mm Center Bore (similar to some toyotas.)

And I ordered BFG A/Ts 285/75/R16

It will take about a month to get the rims in but I will post pictures and let you know how it all fits

also I will probably post my OE rims with 31 BFG ATs (%40-%50 tread left) if anyone is interested

Can somebody point me in the right direction - the pajero I just bought has 265/75r16 all terrains, two of the tires are dead, with a new spare on the back. The rims are pretty beat up. I guess my option is to use the spare and buy a new one for the other side and get through the winter?!?

Ideally what I want to do next is buy some 17' alloys and put some really good winter rated all seasons on them as most of my driving will be city, highway driving. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to find rims that will fit the 92 pajeros? I've heard that some toyotas work, but you need to find someone to bore them out?!

ok here goes.... I got my rims and tires in and on today.
There was a slight mix up on the rims.... however they seem to fit just fine. the only mod so far has been removing the plastic mud flaps
The rims I ended up with are 16x9 with 4inch back space (i think about -25 or -30mm offset)

So far the tires only rub a very little bit under full suspension travel at 3/4 wheel crank, so I will do a little fender trimming before I try things out in the bush.
Also the spare I ordered got lost with UPS (just the rim anyway) but I tested for clearance on the spare hanger and it fit with plenty clearance
