Rhino Liner

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could give me a ballpark figure of how much it would cost to Rhino line a crystal lite roof!? I'm thinking of geting the mirrors and bull bars done depending on how easy / affordable it is to do. I've started to get bubbling paint on the roof and because there are a lot of small spots cutting out the areas and replacing them with new sheet metal seems like a very time consuming and costly fix. Any help is appreciated.

A good start for an estimate would a place that does Rhino Lining. I know of one member who did it, but it wasnt a lite roof, cost him about 400.00

As far as the little bubbles go, you will need to address those before rhino lining, or you will just cover the rust up and give it a place to spread.

it would be at least 500 thats what i was quoted cash. its likely that the rust goes all the way through( it did on mine in about 50 places). i got rid of the rust and rhino lined it myself for under 100$ and looks awsome

There's the real question: How do you rhino line yourself? I'd be interested in doing my own coating.

The rust on crystal lite l300 is apparently caused by the chemical reaction of the mounting glue on the inside. Applying a Rhino Liner on the outside will just hide your upcoming rust spots and you won't notice anything till it's too late. It seems like a good idea short term but who knows what's happen below the liner long term. Why not just properly treat the rust spots and get it painted?

Why not treat the rust spots, prime it, and THEN rhino the sucker for good?

The rust is caused from the moisture INSIDE the van. Doesn't matter how good you tread your rust spots from the outside, new rust spots are coming again.

Crystal light rusty roofs are very common and after stripping many out and examining the inside I found that all the rust spots are right above the bonding used between the steel webbing and the outer skin . The only other link I can find is that when water leaks in the front corner panels it will then condense on the inside of the roof causing corrosion around these bonding points . I can only assume due to the amount of rust inside the roof that it is a reaction between the water and the bonding agent used . I took one of our parts vehicles that had minor rust spots on the roof and hammered a screwdriver through the rust and every time it hits the bonding . There is no difference between colors , years etc . The only thing I could find was severity of front corner panel water leaks .

I hear you, and I'm pulling my headliner anticipating some cleanup work to be done on the inside first.

Assuming that you treat both the inside and the outside of the roof, and prime it, is there any reason why rhino on the roof is a bad idea?

the easiest way to put the rhino liner on your roof is to paintbrush it or you'd need a special paint sprayer.. make sure to get all the rust out first tho.
