trailer hitch/ receiever

Post by spiderbroadcasting »

Hi , new Delica owner here.
Have had it for a month now and I love it.
Have a small utility trailer that I want to tow but can't find a trailer hitch/receiver/ that fits on to my L 300.

Need as much clearance from the ground as possible as I go off road quite a bit on deactivated logging roads.

I want to keep the spare tire in its basket so I'm looking for an arrangement that goes "around" the basket.

Any suggestions where to find one?

Lives in the Vancouver area. BC.

Feel free to e mail me at spiderbroadcasting@shaw.ca or e mail me your phone number , and I'll phone you back and we can talk over the phone.

Thanks Chris.

E&H Hitch in Burnaby (604-433 4611) or Maximum Overdrive in Richmond (604-726 3109). I got mine done at E&H.

Do both of them have hitches that go around the spare tire then? I was under the impression that E+H had one where the tire had to be removed and the hitch welded on whereas Maximum overdrives was bolt on and went around the tire!? Also, enviroimports in Victoria makes some custom ones that will surround the tire, bolt on and will take any load the Vehicle itself can handle.

My E&H receiver/hitch is bolted on. I understand that one mustn't weld a hitch to a vehicle. I'm not sure why but I think it's about strength issues: As well as being a stronger bond there is also a little give, where a weld would be more likely to snap as a chassis shifts in day to day use.

I was originally turned onto E&H by Jay & Christine of the TardisDeli (the TardisDeli has one, too). Both our receivers wrap around a fully operational spare tyre basket. One of these days I'm going to update my signature with a more current photograph of the Miss Lil' Bitchi.

That's really good to know, I think I'll go and check them out now. I also wonder why the hitch on my civic was welded and bolted.
Thanks for all the info Falco. It would be great to see what you've done!

So... what do you think of my baby's rear end? As you can see the spare tyre is still there, the receiver is bolted onto the frame.

Looks Great! Just went in for a quote yesterday. The price is pretty good! Now the decision is whether to do it before the winter or in the spring.

Considering how potentially broke you will be after Christmas, I would do it now ~ a kind of romantic pre-Christmas treat for your four wheeled mistress. She will love you for it. MLB loves accessories. 8-)
