Headlight Relay System + Custom Daytime Running Light Module
I post this on behalf of TardisDeli.
Many Delicas suffer from a burned headlight switch due the heavy amperage caused by modern headlights/light bulbs. One way to avoid that is to install LED daytime running lights OR wire the headlights in the way you can see in the diagram below.
Also the off-the-shelve DRL modules are not very reliable and burn out quite often too. Attached a way to build your own DRL System with a Relay.
Thanks a lot for your help Jay!

Re: Headlight Relay System + Custom Daytime Running Light Module
Thanks for posting the nice diagrams with the wire color coding! I previously figured out the some the of the wires to hook up my DRL relay but never got around to posting the information. I have a few questions/comments:
1) Is the high beam relay necessary since there is already a relay in the system that powers the HB lights?
2) Are the existing fuses for the lights on still used (hopefully); if not new separate fuses will need to be added for each relay.
Also, I added a second relay to my DRL system that disables the DRL relay when the parking brake is on. This is great for code weather starting and sitting around with the stereo on. What I did was run a new wire from the parking brake switch under the carpet and over to the new relay. When the parking brake is "ON" the wire grounds the second relay coil which opens the circuit on the DRL coil. (Hope this makes sense to readers as my electronic diagramming skills are nonexistent.)

Yes the high beam relay is neccesary for taking the heavy amperage load off the ''flimsy'' headlight switch as are the low beam and runnig lights relays. And yes i did add three more fuses for each relay one of these days i'll replace them with circuit breakers. The original fuses remain they protect the headlight switch. I hope this makes sense to you if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask. Cheers Jay Tardis Deli.

Do the same headlight switch and wiring problems plague the L400?
Are the L400 wiring colours same as L300?
thanks

If the L400 is like my Pajero, the short answer is no - there's a relay between the switch and the lights (same as this reconfiguration is doing).thelazybrownfox wrote:Jay and Felix

I still miss my '94 Pajero!

Did Monty come with a DRL relay or was one installed upon arrival?
thanks

Re: Headlight Relay System + Custom Daytime Running Light Module
ive done this a few times, with only one relay as loki posts in the thread. and it has worked great every single time. im using the depo lights with the DRL bulb. how would you compare that install to yours? advantages/disavantages?
edit: click on "this" above to see what the hell im talking about

Green 1 ambitious ......... But yes he has the right idea.It solves a problem Fexlboi brought up to me about not having the lights on when the glow plugs are doing their thing. Cheers Jay Tardis Deli.

No, a DRL was added, but due to the wiring arrangement in the '94 Pajero the boys at CCA said it was a lot easier to wire in than into a Delica.thelazybrownfox wrote:mararmeisto

Re: Headlight Relay System + Custom Daytime Running Light Module
I just completed the relay conversion. I think maybe the high beam wire color should be red with a green strip on it. I added separate LED daytime lights interlocked with the marker lights via a NC contact to turn them off when any other lights are on. This system works great.
