only starting in drive?

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

only starting in drive?

Post by terrain »

Hi
I have an unusual problem. I had a good start in cold weather (starting normally in park) but the transmission lever didn't want to shift easily. Subsequently I had no dash transmission indicator lights working (except for park) - then the vehicle wouldn't start in park but would start easily in drive? Now it won't start at all (clicks and the 2nd click a few seconds later - nothing turning over). Battery and connections are fine. Not ever sure where to start with this one. Anyone experienced anything similar with transmission indicator lights or only being able to start in drive

thanks
john

1/ What are you driving? 2/ As you say you're transmission indicator lights were/are out, are you sure that it was in Drive or could it have been in Neutral that it started?
You know, there is a very good mechanic/garage just up the road from Duncan in Coombs called CC Autos, maybe worth a call. Perhaps this could be something to do with the Neutral Safety Switch ~ try the search engine for additional information.

Hope this helps...

thanks!! it is an L300 and it was strarting in drive - not neutral but from reading the posts on the neutral safety switch I have a sense that is the problem - will give it a try.
4 years of troublefree have been nice - but all good times end - what a great forum

Perhaps you ought to put "L-300" or P35W (or the proper model) in your profile just so the person reading your post knows. Let us know how it works out with the Neutral Safety Switch... There is a post somewhere on that.... I think it was Marty.... or Jesse.... a while back ~ but it covered the more finer details of dealing with this problem.

thanks will figure out how to update my profile - back when I joined the L300 was about the only one around.

Managed to get it started in first by playing with the cable at the shift lever. Having trouble removing the neutral safety switch from the transmission though - any tips for that?

thanks
