It was for a real and legitimate call. Police are not allowed to run lights and sirens without a legitimate reason. In this case is was for an accident investigation involving alcohol and an ATV. At the time it was called in as a boyfriend had attempted to murder his girlfriend with an ATV. (What the scene was ACTUALLY about was much different from the call from dispatch).

Oh, so you were riding up in the front seat of the cruiser?

For Monty (and The Moon Machine previously), I changed out the map lamp bulbs in the overhead. Currently I have reds in there, and blues in the main roof light. Festoon bulbs. I find the blue is bright enough, but not overly bright such as the whites can be. The only thing extra I want to do is change the front light set to a Delica-like map-lights-with-overhead.

Yep, front of the vehicle. :-D I also have a place in Seattle to order stuff from the US and pick it up when I go down there. And, given that I have TN Status I am down in the US a lot for work.

And I agree with you on the brightness of the white festoon bulbs. I have 2 Festoon Bright "cold" LEDs in the front and back of my L400 that were originally in my 4Runner - and they are far too bright to have on while driving. They are great however, when having the doors open to get at stuff. There is the added bonus that I have made the mistake of leaving my front LED light on a few times overnight - and it did not seem to stress the batteries at all. My Deli started up without issue after leaving the front LED Festoon on all night.

I dunno man, with flashing red eyes and a name like Flibble, I'd be inclined to keep him in the back of the cruiser, just to be safe... grins.

Seriously though, I think the current map light festoon bulbs are good ~ just overcome the brightness by putting cellophane on the insides of the lenses. I picked green because of everything else that glows in the cockpit. When I first saw the USB light, as shown in the OP, I thought that would be good for my keyboard if I'm loading up a map or something, but unfortunately they only appear to come in red, blue or mind blowing white ~ not green... yet... I'm still holding my breath.

Keep in mind, that while green looks great, it is also the colour that our eyes are most sensitive to, so it can impact your night vision more than red lights do. Part of the reason gauges often come in green as they can be relatively low light and still be visible as green is easy to see.

My experience? Two colours that work good in the dark and don't cause me to have to readjust to the dark: Red & Green. Blue is brutal, worse than white in my opinion. Red is good just not my style. I also find red a little aggressive. I find warm green is the best, calming, unobtrusive. Also one of the minor selling points when I purchased the Miss Lil' Bitchi.

I also wear yellow polarised lenses when I drive at night*. The yellow of the lens turns those pesky blue white headlamps into green ones so I can adjust easier and actually see that pedestrian leaping from the curb or see other vehicles in my rear view mirror, &c....

Falco.

P.S.: Cellophane also comes in red, too, eh... grins.

*The polarised lens bends the beam, making the light not so aggressive, of all those daytime running high-beams that glare into my retina because the oncoming driver's instrument cluster is on and they think they can see okay, what's my problem? European COPs use these glasses for the same reason. Also good for picking out detail.
