3 pod cluster temp gauge not working

Hello Everyone,

My temp display on the 3 pod cluster is not working, I did read the "wiggle fix" in another "temp display problem" thread, but mine is different, no display at all.

Rookie try....popped it off the dash disconnected then reconnected the cluster, still no display.

Obviously I have to dig deeper and as someone mentioned earlier, it is the one display of the three that is kind of handy and would love to bring it back to life.

Any suggestions?

I dont have a solution for you, but I do have an explanation as to why no one has a good answer for you. There arent many 3 pods around, they were usually only on the super exceed model with all the bells and whistles version. So, those of us with only the 2 pod never got used to having temperature indicators (hey look my tongue stuck to the frozen window, i guess its really really cold outside).

For your issue, is it the internal or external sensor not working, might be a wire broken. the internal temp sensor might be near your knee on the steering wheel (it is on the L300). the 3 pod itself often fails in the connections underneath it (if you can remove it carefully from the dash, and check wiring etc).

Maybe this is a sign to take those gauges out and replace them with a pyro, boost and oil pressure or what have you. I think we all know what the temp outside is.

Just my two bits. The MLB has a two gauge binnacle: Inclinometer & Altimeter. I use them both. It is really nice to know what angle you are at when you are out in the bush, it's good to know what you can get away with.

Altimeter? Well, apart from using it to see what your elevation is (for such things as gauging your engine performance) it also makes for a great barometer.

As far as the temperature is concerned, I stick my hand out the window to sense the outside temperature. As far as Christine sticking her tongue to the window ~ I have found that if it really is that cold then it becomes somewhat tricky to drive so I just breath out and see if I can see my breath.

Is the internal and external temps both gone from the display (no lights)? Or is one or the other still lighting up? Or are they both lighting up, but just way out to lunch? Maybe it's just a fuse?

Outside temperatures in the Kootenays warmed up drastically +8 rain (feel like I am on the coast) Warm temperatures brought the thermometer back to life ....it cut in and out a couple of times but tapping the top of the pod or pushing in on the front of the pod would bring it back again. I am still new to this vehicle as you can tell and must admit was pretty excited when the display flickered on.
With my last vehicle I really enjoyed knowing outside temperatures so I will take the pod apart and see if I can find the connection problem and get it to work full time.
Sorry should have mentioned my ride is a L300. (L400's are great and can imagine they are a dream to drive but personally I think the L300 design was one of those rare vehicle designs that had everything going for it. Others might be some of the earlier Mustangs, that Prelude design...everyone knows the one I am talking about and the VW Beetle)

Seeing that my thermometer problem might be over and I just need to change my thermostat...was that first Prelude (i think it was the first) design the best Japanese car design brought into North America?
