Headlight question

Post by jevans »

Okay I hope this isn't too stupid a question. I purchased my Delica before the lights etc where changed and then waited a month to pick it up. I was told everything was taken care of but went to drive at night for the first time and discovered that only my running lights are working (I think)?.

Are high beams on a Delica strictly high beams?. When I fire up my delica the outer two lights (what I thought were running lights) come on automatically. My high beams work as they should, but when I switch to lo my inner two headlights do nothing.

I've attached an image to be clear. Middle two lights high beam only, outer two lights always on when Delica is running.

Thanks, Jason.

Just like the classic 4 round or rectangular sealed beam headlights, the outer lights are the low beams, and they stay on with high beams as well. The inner lights are the high beams. The only difference between the Deli's lights and the classic sealed beams is that the low beam bulbs don't have 2 filaments, just the one. So they don't show any difference between low and high beam.

It sounds like your low beams are connected as your daytime running lights too.

So that is entirely normal.

as a quick and dirty way of doing daytime running lights for compliance most places use the low beams as daytime running lights, so they are always on with ignition, that's pretty normal and that's why they are the only ones you have on at night unless you use highbeams.
