Improves the torque handling ability by strengthening the transmission case. These transmissions are known stock to have problems with the torque loading between the main shaft and secondary shaft. Stock - as torque is applied the case flexes and spreads the 2 shafts apart - moving the torque carrying to the weaker part of the gear teeth, then they break. These rigid pans and gasketing method stiffen the assembly. Several people are running 400+ hp and 400+ ft/lbs torque through these now with the TuffPan without problems.

I don't recommend banging your transmission on rocks. Thats what frame skid plates are for ;-)

The concept is actually quite interesting. I never would have thought of it in terms of distortion of a transfer case vs torque.

Cool idea !!

Now , got any other cool ideas on how I'm going to achieve 400 ft/lbs of torque with an 87 hp motor ?

Somehow kinda reminds me of water-meth injection. Not sure why. :?

Swap to 2.6l Gasoline, add MPI, big turbo, lots of boost. Very possible ;-)

I assume you have a 4D55? Should be able to get to +100 ft/lbs at the wheels with modifications...

Most are diesels with the 4D56 (2.5L vs 2.3L for the 4D55) turbo non intercooler.
